Useful little beggars! I got the "nail" type - I keep a few in my toolkit for when I need to stretch a groundline outdoors, and a couple in my EDC (you never know when you'll need a spike or two, and they weigh next to nothing...)
Can't really go wrong with titanium, either - a lot of my EC is titanium, and I'm actively converting my field gear over to titanium as well.

You’re buying these because they’re ultralight. Yes, they bend more easily than most tent stakes. When you they hit rock, reposotion the stake and DON’t keep jamming them in. Pretty much that simple. I would recommend them for everything but principle guylines.

Ascent Stakes: I have used these mostly in rocky areas, during the last trip I stumbled through one of my tarp guy lines and out popped the stake. It was now banana shaped, I put it over my knee to straighten it, but of course it buckled the other way, still I was able to get it quite straight and back in the ground. I don't believe any of my aluminum stakes would have bent so easily, and for the weight increas of 3g per stake, I probably should stick with aluminum V or Y stakes for the rocky areas, or be more careful. It's a little hard to fault the Ascents for this because they work fine in average soil. Probably the biggest hassle is that the soil clings to them upon removal, slowing down the process of breaking camp, it's a typical V-stake issue but worse due to the slots. I should have given the nail pegs a try instead, with those it should be easier to find a narrow path between the rocks, they must be stiffer and should come out clean, they weigh the same as an aluminum V-stake but should be better suited for my uses.

Good for light duty
These shepard hook stakes are good stakes for non critical applications. I use it to hold the floor of my silnylon and mesh bivy taught. I would not use these in soft soil or for high winds, but they suit my needs nicely.

double the thickness of previous nail style stakes I have. Too heavy for UL but nice solid and strong. They don't bend ! .5 oz compared to the one pictured on top at .3oz

SnaggletoothI have been using the nail pegs for years. One did break in half to my surprise. Must have been some defect as both halfs were still unbreakable. Vargo immediately sent me another set. I have three of their stoves too.

Very light and work great in soft soil, grass, etc. Watch out for rocky soil. They will bend!
