Drop Mech Keys Meetup Recap - Thanks for Visiting!
As you may have seen, we just hosted our first meetup in quite a while here at Drop HQ (Corsair HQ, but they seem to like us enough :) )! It was a blast to get to meet so many enthusiasts local to the bay area—it had been 10 years since I was last hanging out with keyboard nerds in the bay, at KeyCon 2014. We had a great time hosting everyone at the offices, checking out all the very nice boards y'all brought, and sharing some of our own projects/spaces! I knew it would be fun to host in the Game Room when I first saw it in person, but seeing it come to fruition was still so cool. Alright, I'll stop blabbering on now. xD Picture time! (Oh, real quick - there will be more of these! Stay tuned for more info and to catch the next one!)

Anyways, really cool to see some custom PBT sets. Hopefully this becomes more of a thing.
This is a single layout kit with 0 options. Rather disapointing after we've already seen ISO keys and plenty of bottom rows supported in the latest Blank PBT keycap drop.
Can you buy this set anywhere else right now? No. That's what makes it "custom". It's a colorway that wasn't previously available, and now it is. And it is because someone from the community suggested it and worked with MD to get it produced.
There's nothing wrong with having different definitions of what a custom keycap set is. I just opened this drop and had high expectations to find that Varmillo has gone full Vortex.
But more keys means a higher price, and then you would have people complaining about having to pay for "extra" keys they don't need for their board. And options kits require MOQ's that, based upon the MOQ of 100 for this set alone, probably made them not feasible for this drop.
It's a balancing act and you're never going to please everyone. It seems like they aimed for the most common layout in order to make the drop as successful as possible while keeping costs as low as possible. Can't really fault them for that.
