How the soundstage for Etys typically? Still looking for a nice permanent IEM to go with my UTWS5 and looking for something with a fairly wide soundstage and detailing/separation as those are what I look for the most.
Have the Moondrop Snowia (Aria SE), MoonDrop Chu, 7hz Salnotes Dioko, Tin hifi T2, and Intime Miyabis and so far have really enjoyed the Dioko for almost all uses, though mostly due to my Miyabis MMCX connector breaking on me.
Was going to look into grabbing the Raptgo HookX but if Etys usually have decent sound stage and imagine I may go for these, though the HookX open back looks tempting and fun.

I have E3XRs and I also wanted more bass from my Tin T2s. I found it was much happier with the Comply Pro foam tips on the Etys, but I'm a bit of a basshead (trained classical bass player). Etys seem to have a major reaction to different tips (placement doesn't seem to vary much due to depth).
Soundstage is not wide/tall/deep but is placement-accurate to my experience. Mine are easily driven by my LG phone. I prefer them to my 7Hz Timeless but the passive sound isolation is a liability around other people and/or equipment (my wife doesn't like it when I can't hear her).
I'm hesitant to chase these new Ety-Drop collabs, especially when the 3xr is so cheap on Drop. I still want them even if I can't spend the cash, tho...

PromNightFetusI discovered Etymotic waaaay back in 2006 (and they’ve been around about a decade and a half longer than that). They don’t have the biggest soundstage; with typical stereo music, I don’t get a sense of frontal depth or overall large space, but the image of direction and separation is very good. So while I don’t get the sense of a big stage, it’s all happening in my skull, I can tell when an instrument is behind and further away than another, if that makes sense. Are these a Drop version of the Etymotic EVO that adds multiple drivers, or a single balanced armature design in the EVO form factor? I already own a pair of ER4Ps and don't really need to replace them with something similar. I would definitely be interested in them if they are multi-driver with improved bass like the EVO though!
The ER4Ps are incredibly accurate, and have amazing acoustic isolation. I would love a bit of improved bass that I enjoy in some other IEMs, while still retaining the incredible acoustic isolation and balanced sound.

the single BA design really doesn't have very good low frequency response, especially for very low frequencies
I would point out that this isn't actually true, and the frequency response plots (which simply aren't posted by most manufacturers, so it's hard to compare in a useful way) show it. The ER4-SR are ruler flat down below 20Hz, and the -XR (on which these are based) add a couple of dB of boost to the bass region.
Respectfully, I suggest you are comparing them with other brands with artificially boosted bass.

Ety's are very different than most iem's, with the primary focus being detail & accuracy (XR line semi-excluded). A lot of that is due to most of them being balanced armature drivers vs. traditional dynamic drivers. If you have never heard the "Ety sound" you need to take a listen before you drop $300 on a pair of iems with a sound signature you've never heard. (unless you have a bottomless wallet) I love Etymotic for everything they are, but they are not your typical "fun" V-shaped or even U-shaped sound signature. It's all your personal preference. Though I am excited about them releasing a multi-driver iem knowing what they can do with just one.

bhalejosI spoke out about this some months ago and (if I recall correctly) a representative from Drop told me they will check it out, I don't think it's that hard since they ship to Colombia, but seems like it hasn't been sorted out yet...

Combining Topping E30 W Schiit Midgaurd... And why
Drop gives us a chance to play around with cool audio at appealing prices. Sometimes very unlikely choices just work way better than anyone could hope for. Some time back I bought a Topping E30 to get better sound out of my laptop at work. Well covid hit so I didn't set it up. I already had a Mytek Brooklyn for headphone duty at home. Then I was being cheap and wanted to see of Drop may have a Topping 70 or 90 head amp for a super special price. If it happened... I missed it. So I went ahead and ordered a Schiit Midgaurd to combine with it. I use Audrivana (just like on my main system). AKG 701 Headphones. How does it sound? Honestly it's really a lot of fun. The sound is way better than I could expect. Mixing and matching turned out to just balance the best features of each and I grin every time I listen. Classic, Jazz, Indie or Rock. Hope you all have some fun and grins too.

Finding your groove: getting into vinyl with Audio-Technica
I’d like to think that I could’ve been friends with the late Hideo Matsushita, founder of Japanese Hi-Fi powerhouse Audio-Technica. If I could, I’d travel back in time to 1960’s Tokyo, where a young Matsushita curated “vinyl listening sessions” at the Bridgestone Museum of Arts, exposing visitors to the sounds and possibilities of high end audio and the warmth of vinyl records. I imagine sitting with him in a mod coffee shop, listening to the stories of what he witnessed in those sessions, the conversations he had with visitors, and what ultimately motivated him to head back to his small apartment above a ramen restaurant and start an audio company of his own. In the histories I’ve read regarding AT’s humble beginnings, Matsushita’s motives seem clear. Produce high end audio at affordable prices, bringing audio excellence into spaces and to customers that simply didn’t have access to it before. PC38X sound leakage into mic

Best reasonably priced desktop DAC/AMP combo
I currently use the HD 58X with the 7HZ 71 portable AMP/DAC. It works but I don't know how close to it's full potential. For some songs (rarely) the song sounds OK with the volume set to 40%, but usually 60% is the sweet spot (but sometimes, I need to crank it up even more, especially with metal songs). My friend who has the same headset, he has them connected directly to the motherboard. It's probably because he has a high-end mobo that the audio sounded better directly off his mobo (20% was enough to play most songs OK). As I said in the title, I want a DAC/AMP combo because I want it to take less space and usually from what I saw online, they are cheaper than separate (but if we have anything good, worthy of going split, then why not). I plan in the future to get more premium headphones like the HD 8XX/800S/820 series (or a planar magnetic of the same price range). They say that you don't see much difference (like less distortion and more power being delivered to each driver)...

Why does Drop think it's ok to not honor warranty claims?
Bought the PC38X in Dec 2021. Stated on the item - and still on the product page - that they have a 2 year warranty. For the last 2 weeks the balance is not working anymore, and the sound ends up in just the R side or L side of both. It especially happens when I adjust the volume knob. I tried different cables and devices, same problem. The Drop rep so far has tried to lie to me several times, saying that: 1) I should try things I already mentioned I tried (they never read my first e-mail carefully) 2) That they're not in warranty anymore (bold lie, as per the website, and they confirmed the order date is within 2 years) 3) That they're in warranty, but no stock is available, so would I accept a $20 Drop credit instead (again a bold lie, they're available and IN STOCK on the website) Why does Drop think it's ok to blatantly not honour warranty on a defective product, and why is it ok to make-up random excuses every step of the way?

Tuning the ERX: A Blended ER4XR and EVO Sound The sonic signature of the ERX is inspired by the ER4XR, but its execution is an amalgamation of the ERX and the EVO. Tonally, it leans towards accuracy, with a slight emphasis at lower frequencies that add just enough weight to the lower frequencies, without encroaching on the upper bass/lower midrange. Vocals are present and clear, while lacking any trace of muddiness or smearing. The ERX is set to release 9AM PT on August 2nd, 2022—with final details going live then—and ship in late October. The preorder price will be $249, and the retail price will be $299. The first quantity is, unfortunately, limited to 300 pairs, while we are working hard to make more inventory available.
