Announcing Our First Wireless Bluetooth Headphones

Bluetooth headphones are known for their convenience—it’s great not to have that cable hanging around—but in the past, they haven’t been able to hold a candle to wired headphones when it comes to sound quality. We’re looking to change all that with our next project, our first foray into Bluetooth headphones. Taking advantage of advancements in Bluetooth technology and battery design, we’re aiming for the best of both worlds: an audiophile sound in a wireless package. These headphones will use Bluetooth 5.0, the latest version of the Bluetooth standard, and communicate over Bluetooth Low Energy for reduced power usage and a longer battery life. Bluetooth 5.0 is faster than older versions and can operate over greater distances. Plus, it allows you to play audio on two connected devices at once. They’ll feature the latest Qualcomm® Bluetooth chipset and THX AAA™ technology, which is known for delivering the world’s highest fidelity audio with infinitesimally low levels of noise, distortion and power consumption. Stay tuned for more updates on this project as it moves through the development process.

No ANC while charging $400 for wireless headphones is a pretty steep asking price in my opinion. Granted, I respect THX. Their amplifier technology is apparently second to none judging from what I've read. Not to mention the driver technology sounds really interesting to put in for a wireless headphone. Missing a feature such as ANC with this sort of pricetag is concerning to me. I only hope the passive noise isolation alone will be good enough.

SmychavoThere are several things that I think justify the higher price, beginning with the driver structure. It is a somewhere between traditional planar and dynamic similar to the oppo line. Additionally, these are physically tuned to sound the way they do with no DSP correction. The THX amplifiers in them alone are probably not cheap to produce either. Plus all of the development effort that all of the aforementioned things would entail costs a good chunk of change. I'd love after this first run if they did do a Panda ANC version in a year or so but for now the price is on point.

They need to include gesture controls for bluetooth volume, forward, reverse, and play, pause. But unlike the BMW cabin of twirling the index finger clock wise to raise volume, this should recognize, "Wat up" nod for volume up, and disappointed head drop for volume down, and so on.

Design is bad. Get a better product designer. I think Drop lacks any 'design' individual in its entire employee roster. The website has poor UX (completely deformed information architecture, repetitive sections, no distinction between buttons, icons which mean something else altogether in general usage) and poor design - everything they make themselves which arent in collaboration with bigger brands tend to look ugly. This enclosure is probably a Chinese Whitelabel OEM one which they threw together with a couple of drivers from the Oppo OEMs.

What BT codes would it use - LDAC, APTX-HD, etc? Dual or single DAC for both channels?
