So, let me see if I got this straight? Writing community has disappeared (with NO warning on that one... Yeah, thanks a lot 🙄😒🤬) But, even though the communities are shut down, some products MAY still be OCCASIONALLY offered by way of browsing through the Shop categories, instead of the Communities? The Shop categories that are such a pain in the ass to navigate that I've never once used them instead of going through the communities.....and somehow you think ANYONE is going to browse through there daily to find these "occasional" offerings? You just shot yourself in the foot, again. You're guaranteeing fewer sales on those items because you've stripped them of all visibility on the site. Then you'll look at those horrible sales numbers, pat yourself on the back, and say you made a smart move by shutting it down, because clearly the sales are low 🙄 And to what purpose? All it does for you is to remove the "community" part of that category, taking away enthusiasts ability to post outside of individual drops and discuss the things they're passionate about and want to share with eachother. Are the "community" aspects of the site really that difficult or expensive to maintain, that you can't keep them running on any category that doesn't have massive sales? If so, the money spent on your site redesign was wasted. It should be self-sufficient, and really shouldn't take much in the way of server resources One by one you're removing the last bits of anything that makes this any different from any other retail site. Well, i guess you still have the exorbitantly long delivery times to set you apart from the rest, right? @Drop @Amey @JonasHeineman @steve @AlexPk @ValerieB @Will @Theroc @unixvova

KavikThe manner in which it was dropped (yeah, I said it, dropped) adds insult to injury. No prior announcement, no heads up, nothing. Thank you, @Kavick. Well said.

TherocThanks guys. I know there are quite a few unhappy about this one....thought I'd try to get the complaints focused in one place to show them their members aren't too happy (instead of spread out all over here and Slack) Keep adding those thumbs up if you agree, and reply if you have more to add 👍

KavikAlright. I'll say this much right away: this was handled pretty shit. I'll also take the blame on this one since I misunderstood or completely glossed over what was being discussed in terms of sunsetting additional communities, but here we are. Everyone has too much on their plate so I get how these things without any real "metrics" can fall through the cracks, but to nix a community as old and passionate as Writing without even a wave goodbye is insulting at best. I apologize for the way this happened. I'm sure the reasons on paper are completely justified, but like with most things in community, numbers don't really tell the whole story. Writing has definitely had it's ups and downs over the years in terms of quality of products or meeting the ideals of group buy commerce, but it has always been one of the best "communities" on this site by any other measure and this has been entirely because of the people like you here who put in the time and effort to make it that way. The level of knowledge and passion in Writing has always been some of the best on the site, and despite those high levels of enthusiasm, has routinely been one of the most civil communities to interact with. On a personal level, I don't agree with the dropping(per @Theroc) of Writing as a community on the site because I think the people are worth it, but I am also willing to admit that a stagnant and neglected community might be worse. I don't know. I do know, a hundred percent, that you deserved a better send off from the site than a footnote. Anyway, I want you all to know that I, and everyone else have enjoyed the time with you kind folk over the years. To thank you for all the time you've spent and the things you've done. Whether it was making posts, writing comments, creating polls or just shooting the shit with us here. I appreciate it all. I know this isn't nearly enough, but thank you for everything.

AlexPkThanks Alex. While I strongly disagree with any part of this new path making any sense, I appreciate someone taking the time to respond. We keep hearing things like "we'll be listening to feedback" (paraphrased), but almost NEVER get responses to any user complaints or questions in the public forums here anymore. We get announcements (or not, in this case), then everyone on staff suddenly turns into ostriches. Ugh. Just saw cooking is gone too! The only three communities I ever watched on a regular basis were knives, cooking, and writing 😔 (Edit: i'd browse photography semi-regularly too, but never purchased anything there because the grey market warranty questions where always too big of a concern anyway)

TherocAgreed. It almost seemed the equivalent of a link going bad.

KavikThis was my last straw. Will be making a solid effort to longer contribute to the Drop MAU stat.

AlexPkThanks Alex. Now that it’s gone, I feel bad that I never visited the Writing Community. They sound like a very passionate group of people.
