Best 2.1 Speaker Setup Desktop Amp?

more_vert
Hi All, As the title implies I am looking for recommendations for a decent desktop amplifier. My budget is up to $400 but I am looking for best bang for buck. I currently am using a Sony STR-DH130 Receiver that I found at a yard sell for $10. It works but I am looking for something a little bit more desktop friendly. I have Sony sub-woofer and 2 Micca MB42X-C's positioned well. I just wanted a sub that can drive the speakers and the sub. It doesn't need to have a DAC as I already have 02+SDAC and a Aune X1 10th. So any and all recommendations are welcome. I also love the second hand market so it doesn't need to be the latest and greatest, I am happy to go back a few generations to get something that does it's job well but maybe doesn't have all the bells and whistles.

Unless you feel like some DIY you won't find many subs designed to power passive speakers. In situations where a 2.1-5.1 amp is built into the sub it's typically a matched set type of situation (sub and speakers sold together). A small integrated amp or stereo receiver would be the best option IMO. Refurbished NAD316BEE are within that budget but would also require a sub that has speaker level inputs as that model has no pre-amp outputs. The Marantz M-CR611 is compact and currently on sale on some sites. It is right at your budget, can power your micca's, output to your sub as well as add CD and some Wifi functionality.
