How to Work (and Thrive) From Home

Wake up, put on sweats, grab a coffee, start working. Sound familiar? For some, working from home is nothing new. For others, it’s a complete 180. No matter where you fall on the spectrum, we’re here to help you get the most out of your day, from the way you work to the gear you use. Here are some tips we hope you’ll find helpful. Create a Dedicated Space While it might be tempting to work from your couch (or bed), resist the urge. Creating a dedicated workspace will help you stay focused. We recommend picking an area with low foot traffic, preferably by a window or a plant. Finding the right listening environment can also help you get in the zone. If you’re craving that concert-like atmosphere, we recommend our open-back Sennheiser HD 58X headphones (but be careful at high volume, unless you want to give your roommates a concert, too). If you prefer to listen loud with no limits, try our Meze 99 Noir closed-back headphones.

Get Comfortable (and Ergonomic) Now that you’ve got a dedicated workspace, you can focus on comfort. That means investing in things that make sitting at your desk for a full day enjoyable. Our first suggestion should come as no surprise: Get yourself a keyboard! If you want all the bells and whistles, check out our flagship CTRL mechanical keyboard. If you’re tight on space, try our ALT mechanical keyboard, a smaller version with all the same features, or go smaller still with our Tokyo60. To keep your wrists supported while typing, you’ll want to get a wrist rest, too, like this wooden one from Orcas. You could even grab a headphone stand to complete your setup and save space.

Channel Your Pent-Up Energy It’s easy to get antsy when you’re stuck at home all day, but we have some clever options to help you reign it in. Number one? Get a fidget toy. When you have something to occupy your hands, you can focus your energy on the task at hand. We recommend the Vorso MK1 spinning top, the Tactile Turn Bolt-Action Pen, or a CLICKEYbits Fidgety Switch Tester.

Maintain Your Daily Ritual Whether you like to go for a walk, meditate, workout, or read before you settle in at work, you still can. For us, there’s no better way to start the day than with a nice cup of joe. While you may not be able to hang at your local coffee shop, you can bring the barista to you with the Technivorm Moccamaster KB Coffee Brewer.

Find a Creative Outlet When you’re cooped up at home, you need a way to get your creative juices flowing. You could take up painting, start an herb garden, hone your baking skills, or jot down your thoughts in a journal. If you decide to take to pen and paper, do yourself a favor and check out this leather journal from the British Belt Co. and this satisfying brass pen from Machine Era. If you really want to think outside the box, grab a fun metal puzzle from Craighill to ease your mind when you need a break.

Hear & Be Heard Clearly Video calls have never been more relevant. To make sure you can hear your coworkers, family, and friends loud and clear, you need a good pair of headphones. And to make sure they hear you clear as a bell, your microphone is just as important. Get the best of both worlds with our Sennheiser PC37X headset. With its sound acoustic design and crystal-clear mic capsule, it’s a great choice for all of your video calls—and a great teammate for gaming, to boot.

Explore Those Deep Cuts More time at home means more time to explore your favorite artists and musicians. If you want to dive deeper than the greatest hits, you’ll want to do those new tracks justice. With a headphone amp, you can hear even more precious details. Our favorites of late are the Drop + THX AAA 789 Amp and the Cavalli Tube Hybrid Amp.
