Does a Dark Voice Tube Amp need a DAC

more_vert
I have a question for anyone who can give me advice, I'm interested in a DV but not sure if I need a DAC? I use a DAC/amp out of my IPhone with a 3.5 jack. Can I plug that little rig (with an adapter) directly into the RCA inputs on the DV? Or do I even need a DAC? I use HD6XX headphones. Thanks................

@PAPA-T Short answer: no. :) Amps can make a big difference (I had the DV and it's great), but DACs make a tiny difference, and your iPhone already has a DAC inside it that works just fine. Save your money and get a Y cable (one 3.5mm to two RCA) and you should be all set.

You can use whatever you want if it works. The only sacrifices or gains are sound quality. It will probably work if you max your iPhone out with that adapter. The adapter is basically an inline DAC anyway (but super cheap and basic). I would recommend a dedicated DAC or a better inline DAC at least E.g. Xduoo Link or something similar with an ESS or AKM dac in it. If you dont care about SQ that much or want an even more coloured sound then by all means, doesn't matter.

“I use a DAC/amp out of my IPhone with a 3.5 jack. “ What exactly are you doing here? I ask because the iPhone lightning to 3.5mm (A1749) is a DAC/amp solution...Which you could use with a 3.5mm-to-RCA to feed the line input on the DV but double amping like that has some drawbacks in audio quality. If all you are after is sound then there are a whole host of technical solutions. However they are not all equal in terms of sound quality.

james.robertsI'm just trying to determine if I need additional equipment between my IPhone out and DV input for it to work properly. If so, will my current DAC/AMP combo work or do I need to purchase something different.
