Seiko Turtles are very practical every-day watches; they're easy to read and comfortable to wear. The 4R36 movement includes a day/date complication, with hacking and winding--everything you need and nothing you don't. I like them so much I bought two (SRP777 in silver and SRPC44 in gold PVD).

I just remembered those aren't the only "Turtles" I have...

The one on the left qualifies if not by manufacturer, then certainly by case (and spirit).

bigred25929 I have not, so I found this video review to have a look see : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v09EuWLe3w4 I tend to agree with everything the guy says--the Steeldive most likely comes out of the same factory as the equivalent Heimdallr Captain Willard (seems everyone's selling a version now). Most notable differences appear to be the upgraded lumed ceramic bezel and the slightly textured dial. Other than that they both ship with sapphire crystals and identical Seiko NH35 movements. I have to agree with the reviewer, while the lumed bezel sounds nice, the fact that it's blue while the indices are green kind'a killed that feature for me (that, and it's not true to the original Seiko). He didn't like the steel bracelet and wasn't wild about the Steeldive logo. I could deal with the logo (even though I kind'a dig the Shark logo on the Heimdalr's) but this watch really needs a Tropic strap to in order to look like a faithful (inexpensive) Captain Willard--evidently he had to shell out extra for one. Heimdalr's Willard and 62MAS ship with very nice Tropicals. Bottom line: it's not horrible ;- ) I haven't compared prices though, what did you find?

RayFI haven't really looked into it other than a quick glance on AliExpress! Mayeb I'll snoop around on "The bay" to see if any are roaming around!

I still have 3 Turtles SRP’s! Gold, two tone and black. Have you seen the rose gold land tortoise yet?

Mr_Ling Actually I hadn't--I had to go looking for them, and when I found them, I wasn't happy! Initially I thought they weren't half-bad looking, then I read the fine print.

The first thing Seiko screwed up is the case size down from 45mm on the original Turtle to a smaller 42.3mm in the Tortoise. I suppose a guy could live with that, but they really screwed up the DAY/DATE complication--they eliminated the damn DAY! Only the date remains--now it's just another date-only dial with the aperture at the 4:30 position (with numerals about 2/3rds the size of the original font used--not helpful). I don't have a problem with the compass style bezel--that's more or less the point of the watch (even though that method is only mildly functional in the field). Of the color ways available, I'd probably opt for the Olive Green (assuming someone was holding a gun to my head). I'd pull the trigger myself before I'd wear the Rose Gold version, especially at the $550 MSRP! So bottom line: I hate 'em. They look as though someone at Seiko forced a Turtle to mate with an Alpinist and this is the deformity that resulted!

ED61 It's so good, I'm always afraid Seiko will discontinue it!
