It's good, don't get me wrong, but the image quality could be better. 4k isn't helpful resolution if there is still a lot of pixilation. Would rather lower resolution, better IQ.

First 4k resolution dashcam to the market

At the time of purchase this was the first 4k dashcam on the market and touted "the best" by many shops. Bought 2 sets of the 2 channel version to install on my 2 Tesla. I had professional installed both dashcams. For Tesla model X it was straight forward connection to the battery. No need for extra auxiliary battery to keep the dashcam running in parking mode. For model 3, I had to get the external blackvue battery to keep the dashcam active during parking mode. Without the external blackvue battery it would shut off when the car is powered down. Functionality was fairly straight forward with cloud base services. It's quick to connect your phone to the dashcam via local wifi network generated by the dashcam. Recording is at 1 min block. It worked fine and served its purpose. Parking mode will enable both audio and video recording when the built in accelerometer is activated or sound threshold is reach. Good to detect accident, break in and enter, etc. Accessing recorded files were easy enough. You can download these files onto your phone or leave them recorded in the microSD card in the dashcam. Of note, must use high endurance microSD card since it will be written over and over many times. This was the first 4k dashcam to the market and had its lead for a while. The competition caught up and now their 4k dashcams are producing better image and quality, even compared to the latest Blackvue DR900X. I had both of them for over 1 year now. It worked well as advertised until 3-4 months past the 1 year warranty mark. It was fairly hot in southern CA (about 90F) for few days and the dashcam was overheating just parking outside. It would start rebooting repeatedly. The chasis of the dashcam was very hot to touch even when outside temperature are in the 70's. When it's 90F outside the poor thing could not tolerate the heat wave and died on me. This really brings to attention the durability of tolerance of heat for a product that was designed to be exposed to high temperature inside parked vehicle. Even with the latest firmware it did not fix the overheating issue. One of my 2 DR900S-2 channel was not exposed to as much sun and heat as the other so it is still working. While it would be ideal to minimize temperature and sun exposure, this product should have lasted much longer. It begs the question of how long would this dashcam last if you live in a hot area. I am disappointed at the durability but did enjoy the functionality. Would I buy it again knowing what I do now? No simply due to durability issue. Update: I was excited to try the latest Blackvue DR900X-2 channel since I still have all the wiring intact in my Tesla model 3. I figured it would be an easy swap for the front and back dashcam. Temperature tolerance seems to be better with the new model. The image sensor remained the same but now you can have LTE connection to your data provider. Boy was I wrong. DR900X used a new connector for the power port. The signal port for the rear channel is still the same as DR900S. In short you cannot simply swap them out and use the existing wiring. You have to rewire the power cable. I wanted to give Blackvue another try but given this unfortunate change I will be trying out their competitor instead.

Fantastic product so far. The included power cable is incredibly long - enough that I was able to run it from the camera mounted at the top of my windshield all the way to trunk of my car while hiding it behind trim pieces. The 4k resolution is a great feature to have making it possible to actually read license plates from videos if needed. The product isn't perfect - even with the sensitivity turned down to the lowest settings, it still seems to automatically detect events way too easily. Something as simple as closing my car door can trigger it. I haven't been able to find a way to set the clips to longer than 1 minute length when recording in 4k - might not be an option at all, although it's by no means a major issue. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for a dash cam.

The camera itself is pretty decent but customer service is a joke. I have another unit that was defective out of the box. BlackVue did everything they could to put the blame on me and not take responsibility for it. The resolution they offered to me, for them selling a defective product, was for me to accept a used, refurbished or demo unit in exchange for what was supposed to be a new, retail item. I was left with having to file a complaint with numerous consumer protection agencies and to file a civil action against them and their US distributor. For this reason alone, I do NOT recommend this product!
