Hm, Can anyone confirm that this will work with a android phone? Currently I've got a galaxy s5.
In a similar vein, will this require any specific app to use? Or will it work with all apps, ex, spotify.
VexsI use the DACPort HD with my LG G3. Works fine. The main problem is you need to somehow take the output from your phone's micro USB to your DACPort and, due to the fact that male-male micro USB cables are insanely hard to come by, this is more annoying than it seems. I got around it by using an ordinary OTG cable with a (very) short male-male USB A to micro USB. Attached is a link to the pics.

The plastic housing on the OTG female USB connector might also be an issue for you. If you use my setup and audio doesn't come through, it's likely that the short adapter isn't reaching the data pins. To get around this, I used an angle grinder to shorten the housing to a suitable length, but you could use anything.
This should work with any audio output from the phone.
