Ok, we looked at the costs of making a small power amp that would be an ideal match to these speakers. It would have line-level RCA inputs, and speaker binding posts to connect the cables. We would include a volume knob and offer the amp in a small package for retail price of $249.95. Basically for the same price as these speakers.
Of course, there will be a massive discount here on Massdrop. Any takers?
CEntranceThat would depend on how massive the discount is. I haven't bought an amp yet but not willing to spend $200 right now. I can be convinced though.
CEntranceThat would be appealing, but after purchasing these speakers I went and bought an amp. Picked up this maverick tubeMagic a1 Hybrid Integrated Amplifier with upgraded Raytheon 6AK5 tube. It was $239, so just commenting that the prices are competitive. http://www.mav-audio.com/base/product/tube_magic_a1
Based on a previous comment I read I'm under the impression I might need a pre-amp?
Setup: Source -> DAC -> amp -> speaker
SlowcountryNo you do not need a pre-amp. You need a pre-amp if you are using a power amp. The link you gave says "integrated amplifier" and even says it has the functionality of a pre-amp, although that is a given for an integrated amp.
CEntranceUnless this is going to have better specs than the DACmini PX I'm more interested in seeing the PX on massdrop. I much prefer a high quality all internally connected device where cables can't muddy things. That said many people would probably want to buy separate components to keep components that they already have.
