Cold Steel has partnered with Andrew Demko for its latest round of innovative folders. Introducing the AD-10: a workhorse full-size S35VN folder built for any task Read More
This has been put in my EDC rotation and I am finding it very useful. Yes, it is large so if that in of itself is a deal beaker, then pass on this; otherwise, this will likely be an attention getting whenever you pull it out to cut something. If you like beefy, over-built, larger knives:
The AD10 is possibly the most solidly build, confidence inspiring, hard use folder that I have come across. Refined in its build and movement, but it is a beast of a folder. Love the triad lock.
Only downside is that the blade isn’t centred well when folded.
large knive, essy to handle and surprisingly it fits most pockets. Good for most jobs and also good for the outdoors. Used for camp fire and cleaning a deer.
I have had this now for some time and it has been my carry knife since I received it (March 4, 2019). The AD-15 is pretty amazing. This is not a small, slim knife by any means so if that is what you are looking for then keep looking. It is very beefy.
The blade steel to me is a perfect middle ground for staying sharp and being easy to sharpen. I heard some people talk about the scales tearing up their pockets because they are sharp. They are definitely sharp but I have had zero issues with my pockets.
I take it out multiple times throughout the day and play with it at work....the knife I mean. Maybe goes in and out of the pocket about 10 times per day and no fraying. If you are worried about your poor pockets maybe a smaller, daintier knife would be your thing. Or maybe sand the scales down.
The action on it was very stiff out of the box. It would not fly open when I flicked it and I could not pull back on the lock and release it like an axis lock. I took it apart, oiled the pivot, and put it back together only tightening enough to where there was no blade play. Now it is very smooth.
The lock is awesome; very strong, looks great, functions amazing. I bought it because it jumped out at me, not many knives do. I prefer interesting knives that have something different about them which is why I went with the AD-15 over the AD-10.
Considering the custom version of this is $600+ I would say they did a fantastic job on this and it was worth the price for sure. If they came out with interesting colors I might even buy another one.
Logos and all are still crisp. Gimping is fantastic. Pocket clip is great.
Use this for cutting open packages, prepping food, cutting rope or paracord....things that normal people do with their knives even though they may imagine being stranded on an island with only one tool at your disposal. That is not to say I haven't been out camping and messed around with whittling sticks or just messing around.
Some bad things:
Pocket clip is not deep carry. A good chunk sticks out of your pocket. There is no option for tip down carry either. The latter doesn't bother me but some people want that option. That's really all I've got....
If I do a review I like to have the product and use it for quite a while before I give any impression on it. It is your hard-earned money going towards something and in my opinion it is a disservice reviewing something that you just opened up and put on your shelf.
TLDR;
Big, bulky, beautiful knife made for people who like just that. Interesting design, great blade steel, would buy another at this price.
Great build and finish. There was nothing wrong with it but I found it a bit too big for me to keep in my edc rotation. If you like big folders; go for it.
