I have one of these. For a quick use fixed blade, like opening mail or slicing fruit, it's fine. The grip is more comfortable than you think and the sheath is decent, though I wouldn't advise using it as a neck knife. Because of it's size, you could probably get away with having this in your white-collar office in a desk drawer and nobody would think it's scary. They'd just think you have a fancy Japanese-style letter opener, LOL.

I was given this knife as a birthday present a few years ago so I will not talk about pricing. I am sure you can find it cheaper elsewhere, that is always the consensus. TL;DR I love this knife and would buy myself another. I like this little knife. At first I was not a fan of the cordage because it seems like coreless paracord (you know, the white strands inside the paracord were taken out to make it sit flat against the metal) that is clued and covered in a resin to make it hard. The grip is nice but can be a bit abrasive to your hands if you are not used to the roughness. What I do for carrying this knife is feed the cord through a belt loop or backpack loop and then place it somewhere accessible like in my pocket. So when I want to draw the knife, I can pull the knife out of the pocket and away from where it is attached to the belt loop and then it comes free from the sheath! It's brilliant. Even though it is a neck knife, I never carry it as a neck knife. It's pretty obvious. It came fairly sharp though the edge was a little too thin. I had to resharpen fairly quickly after the initial 'out of the box' sharpening. But for what I used the knife it seemed very capable. The sheath has a fairly good grip on the knife and has not done damage to the coating so that is a win. One very strong dislike I have is that the kydex holes do not surround the knife. I have wanted to attach it to a bag with speed clips but I could not because all the pressure ended up being split across 2 holes instead of 4 which meant that in a stressful situation you could rip the knife clean off the belt clip. I cannot attach this in the ways I want to so I have to come up with different methods. I do not like that part of the design which is why I carry it in a bag or my pocket as mentioned above. All in all, I love this knife and would buy myself another because of how fun it is.

I'm not sure what the reason was that I purchased this knife. It's not bad, but I really don't know where it is at present. It was that uninspiring to me. It's $26 at KC and that includes S&H. I have a CRKT Crawford Casper Dragon that is very similar in size. I like this one and do EDC it some.

14themoneyHave you noticed any discernible difference in the 9Cr18 on the Dragon versus run of the mill 8CrXMoV?

bookworm13It is my impression that 9Cr18 holds an edge longer. I have not sat, or stood, and chopped up sisal rope until the blade would no longer cut paper, like Cedric does, but I am quite sure that the 9Cr18 is holds an edge longer. Many put it on a level with 440C. Given good HTs on both, take the 9Cr. FWIW, both have a very similar HRC.

I bought mine on amazon, but I think it's a great small utility knife. It's not a super comfortable grip, so heavy duty tasks are going to be uncomfortable (but I do believe the knife could handle it)
I'm a paramedic, and really wanted a horizontal mount, fixed blade that was still only about the size of a regular pocket knife. This has been really fantastic. it stays put in the sheath really nicely (I've been beating on it for months and it's still like new) and all I had to do was put loc-tite on the screws for the horizontal mount belt loop since one got a little loose after a month (and has stayed put since) but I can pull it and have it ready faster than ANYONE else around me. Which has come in handy when we REALLY needed a knife on a rescue and didn't have seconds to spare, or are hunched down on our knees around a patient, which can pinch a pocket clipped knife and make it impossible to retrieve. It's just always on my back belt and one hand yanks it free with no fuss. I will say that people poke fun at me all the time for having such an "obvious" knife, but anytime it's been needed, they admit just how useful it is.
It's kept the factory edge for several months of use now and still has yet to feel like it needs sharpening.
It's definitely not a comfortable knife, but it's got so much else going for it. Don't buy it to "EDC" it. you'll look like a tool. But if you have a need for something like this, it's been doing the job really damn well for me in EMS, and the speed that it can be brought to bear has really helped in emergency situations.

Massdrop, please include country of origin on each and every drop, so we don't have to ask on each and every drop.
Massdrop, don't call it ray skin if it's not ray skin. Is it ray skin? People that do not want ray skin do NOT want ray skin. People that DO will accept no substitute. So, is it ray skin?
Is the skull bead included? Lanyard? Belt loop...?

SpecialEdThe price tells you everything you need to know. A $20ish CRKT will be made in China. And no one will include authentic ray skin at that price. The last time I looked at katanas/wakizashis, even the $150-$200 range swords had plastic-molded ray skin.

SpecialEdBead skull and gutted paracord are included, altough the skull is plastic. Never the less, its interior hole is perfectly sized to accept two strands of gutted 550 paracord, and hold them tightly enough to work as a cinch.
The Obake's skull is a replica of a bead Lucas Burnley sold with some of his past custom pieces. I took it off my Obake and incorporated it into the lanyard I tied on my Boker Plus Burnley Kihon (a production version of one of his custom designs). A little semi-custom touch on a very cool looking knife.
As for knives' country of origin, unless otherwise specified, you can pretty well rest assured that when any well-known production house doesnt trumpet "Made in the USA / Japan / Germany / Italy" somewhere, then it is made on China; you can also Which means about doodley-squat these days in terms of build quality, although I understand trying to make an effort to buy US-made products so as to pay the wages of US workers.
