Ahoy everyone,
This is the first event that CruzCtrl has done with us. Unfortunately, there was a limit of 100 cables due to some time constraints and also each one being handmade. We decided to run a monochromatic color scheme to have the best option for anyones' setup. I've seen the popularity due to how quickly they sold and how many of you guys have already requested a rerun - there will be more drops in the near future with other color and coil options. If you have any ideas or preferences of what you would like to see, feel free to drop a comment and I'll relay the suggestions to CruzCtrl.
Thanks!
Hiya everyone,
Josh here aka CruzCtrl. I've been a customer of drop (formerly known as massdrop) since 2013 and it really is an honor to be running this sale here.
A little bit about my background: I got into making cables after getting my first mechanical keyboard that had a detachable cable a little over a year ago. I decided giving making my own cables a shot and really enjoyed the process that went into making them. Since then, making these cables has been kind of my odd way to unwind after a long day / during the weekends (I would assume it's a similar feeling for those really into knitting). I went to school for computer engineering and ended up working full-time in the esports / live streaming field (which I really do enjoy) after graduating. Being able to go through countless iterations and processes made to ensure the durability and reliability of these cables has been a great outlet to use the knowledge and skills I picked up in university.
About the cables, my process from start to finish for each of these cables is about 2 days. Everything is made by myself and and a few folks helping me out as much as they can. I've been tinkering with every aspect of the cables to find out what the best way is to prevent shorts, make strong retractile coils, and overall make something that can be used for years. I'm quite satisfied with the current quality of the cables, and I sincerely always make the best effort to ensure people who do purchase any of my cables will receive something that is worth the value.
Very thankful for all the great folks in the community who have helped and guided me along the way. Thanks again to drop for the opportunity.
4/24 Update:
We received an update from CruzCtrl that he's been working hard to meet the expected ship date for these cables, but the impact of COVID has introduced some delays. There are still a few components he is waiting on but it is looking to be an ETA of May 11 instead of June 11.
Thank you for understanding guys!
SpencerLYeah, this is totally possible. I typically haven't seen much demand for usb-micro in the past, but it sounds like a good idea to keep stock of micro connectors and provide it as an option in the future.
I haven’t gotten a cable yet, but I have a bunch of friends who had some custom made and have seen them in person. 10/10 quality and the designs are extremely clean and make any set up just look that much better(whether its your keyboard/mouse). On top, you get a design you want that can compliment your set up. Waiting for that right cable for my set up and when I find it, I’m definitely going to CruzCtrl Cables!
