So for those curious, I confirmed with the DD HiFi staff that the DAC/AMP is identical to the stock Apple dongle. You should see some benefit from a more isolating stainless steel case, however, don't expect huge changes there. So basically you're paying for the build quality and form factor! On a side note, the plug does protrude quite a bit and will fit the vast majority of cases, cheers.

RJSLBSHi, what does "identical" mean? Surely Apple are not disclosing the precise specs of their products to any random company.

OferSure, but you can easily tear one down and find the exact chip (reference). To quote DD, the TC35i "uses the same plug/chip as that of the official Apple Lightning headphone jack adaptor".

RJSLBSHmmm, I doubt they would say that and mean that. Hello lawsuit. Apple will eat them alive. Probably lost in translation... Furthermore, the amp seems to be more powerful than the Apple dongle.

OferWait what? On what grounds would Apple sue them?????? Claims that they use the same components as Apple???

RJSLBSInteresting, I cannot see any entry for it in the MFi database https://mfi.apple.com/account/accessory-search I wonder if they might be literally buying the Apple adapter/DAC and reassembling it inside a different case.
