A starter turntable doesn’t have to start from square one. With an established reputation for bringing quality engineering and extra features to the entry level, Denon has done it again with DP-400. A newer take on the fan-favorite DP-300F turntable, the DP-400 showcases an S-shaped, horizontal-tracking tonearm that lifts automatically and stops the platter when playback concludes. Also new is a standard headshell that can be swapped out in seconds for those wanting to upgrade. A weighted, belt-driven platter supports 33 1/3 rpm, 45 rpm, and 78 rpm records with hi-fi precision, while a switchable phono equalizer instantly creates a wide-open, detailed soundstage for any album. Accommodating current in its two most common forms, each DP-400 includes an MM cartridge and supports MC cartridges. One more versatile touch: the removable dust cover doubles as a display stand.
