Diamine has been making fine inks in Liverpool since 1864, and its new Shimmertastic Ink is quite literally a shining example of what makes the brand so highly regarded among fountain pen enthusiasts. On a scale of easy to impossible, how difficult would it be for an absolute beginner to write with this ink using a dip pen?
If it would take more finesse than I possess right now, how long will the unopened bottles last?
Thanks in advance.
Received mine last week! Silver colloids are a little over-saturated and the gold colloids under-saturated. Would be nice if its somewhere in the middle. Perhaps it's different bottle to bottle. If you have fine nibs, it might clog your feed. I left my pen unused for a couple of days, and had to "wash" the nib to get ink flowing again. That said, the inks are so very pretty.
These inks can be a lot of fun AND really hard on older pens. Some pens will clog up just thinking about being filled with a shimmering ink. Newer pens that are easy to take apart and clean tend to do best. Also, it's best to empty the pen of this type of ink and clean after each use.
Purple Pazzazz, Red Lustre, Blue Lightning, Magenta Flash, Lilac Satin, Caramel Sparkle?
I swear I've heard all those names while watching My Little Pony with my daughter.
If I ever become a My Little Pony furry, Wine Devine is taken!
...and my bottle of Blue Flame came with the cap halfway unscrewed. Both boxes soaked, not in any condition for gifting. Good luck to everyone else!
Update: Filed a support ticket with pictures and Massdrop is sending another set of inks out to me. Great service! Just hope this one comes intact.
SiampumpkinIn my experience Kaweco nuns do run a bit broader than other western brands (ex: Faber Castell). They‘re fairly wet writers, so you might be alright. The worst that can happen is that the ink doesn’t work, and you’ll need to use a different pen or get a broader nib for your current Kaweco.
