When you bought an Apple Macintosh computer in the early 1990s, you received the Apple Extended Keyboard II (AEKII) along with it. While it may seem ordinary by modern standards, it was this very keyboard that would become a benchmark for future full-size boards—a legend of its time and still today. For our latest project, we teamed up with designer biip (who you may know from keycap sets like Milkshake, Bento, and Bushido) to create a set inspired by the legendary AEKII. Executed in our exclusive MT3 profile, our Extended 2048 keycap set features a minimal icons-based design with cream-colored alphas, black legends, and bright color accent keys. Made of PBT material with dye-sublimated construction, MT3 Extended 2048 is built strong with legends that won’t fade.
To understand the appeal of MT3 profile, you have to understand its history. Many old computer terminals were constructed with a slanted switch layout from front to back. Because of that slant, the keycaps sat at an angle atop the switches. MT3 profile is a reimagination of that unique slanted build, but optimized for modern keyboards. Based on iconic IBM beamspring terminals of the 1970s, it’s sculpted with a prominent curve that extends across each row. On top of that, MT3 features scooped keys to help orient your fingers on the keyboard. Thanks to some significant design work from Matt3o, 3D modeling, and a whole lot of elbow grease, we're proud to continue to bring this innovative profile to life.
MT3 Extended 2048 offers two Alpha Kits: the standard Latin kit and the Katakana mono kit, a reference to the japanese version of the ‘90s Apple Extended Keyboard II.
Containing everything needed for keyboards ranging from 60% to 75% layouts, the Modifiers Kit is a must-have for certain keyboards.
If you’re looking for a clean keycap set with a cherry on top, the Icono Kit features icons heavily inspired by Susan Kare, who worked for Apple in the 1980s.
This is a dedicated kit for Mac users, including media keycaps instead of function keys. You can also use these keycaps on a macro pad if you choose.
Images are of 3D renders and are for illustration purposes only. Before production, the keycaps undergo a rigorous approval process to ensure accuracy based on the designer's artistic vision. This means the digital renders shown will not perfectly match the final product.
