To begin, the BMR1's offer an impressive audio experience, delivering clear, distortion-free sound even at higher volumes, and their design is truly unique. However, they do have their share of drawbacks.
The largest of these drawbacks is the absence of a power button or switch, which makes turning them on and off quite cumbersome. The only way to control their power is by unplugging them, which is hardly an ideal solution. What's more, plugging or unplugging the 3.5mm jack causes the speakers to emit a hideously loud popping noise, and jarring feedback whenever the connector makes contact with anything conductive. Some devices even cause the popping noise whenever they power on. Additionally, when the speakers are connected to a device that isn't powered on, a subtle hissing noise becomes noticeable.
As others have noted, there's the issues with the left side of the right speaker becoming uncomfortably hot, how the front light can be excessively bright, and the connecting cable being too short. All these issues I can corroborate, and could be easily resolved with the inclusion of a power button or an alternative power control method.
Despite these drawbacks, I find myself content with my purchase and have no immediate plans to seek out replacement speakers. I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing what improvements Drop will introduce with their next iteration of the BMR1s.
