What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

From what I can tell, the final color is actually much closer to what the ALT is, and a big reason I didn't want the ALT was BECAUSE of that color.
What the hell happened here? This is a community that is VERY MUCH focused on aesthetics as well as functionality, why would the final product be so different from what was originally presented?
Obviously, they decided to change the product‘s color scheme and finish substantially. Why make those changes without communicating with us about them?
1) The light/dark appearance of the finish is very dependent on lighting and viewing angles. In bright, direct light, it can look much more silver. On my desk, in less direct illumination and with the backlit keys active, it looks a lot like the renders.
2) My camera tends to capture more light from the finish than what I perceive, so it looks brighter in pictures than it does to my actual eyeballs.
3) The cable is indeed a dark charcoal gray, not black. So it all fits together as advertised, in my view, although your mileage may vary.
4) Beyond all of that, this is a pretty darned fantastic keyboard. The caps feel great, and the enclosure is very solid. The Box White switches I chose are incredible. Even the default lighting options are better than most, in my view.
The noise is real. It's louder than most MX Blue keyboards that I've used. So good luck with that. :)
