JadMaktabiYou can't. Cherry MX Blue plate mount switches can be found all over the place for reasonable prices, but that isn't the version you'd need with this keyboard. You need the Cherry MX RGB Blue (clear housing), otherwise you won't get any backlighting on your keys.
I haven't found a single website selling the clear MX Blue switches. You'd probably be better off checking out the Kailh BOX Jade switches. They're amazing, so much so that I will never use MX Blues again. They're also LED compatible with their clear housing.
Urano_MetriaThis is true, and cherry is overrated anyway lol! So many other switches that you don't have to pay extra for cherry brand, and rgb. Why the F does cherry not make them all rgb is beyond me, and I don't know why people put up with it. Novelkeys has tons to choose from.
Johnny831NovelKeys is where I recommend for everyone these days. Amazing place all around, and the place is very well run. The NovelKeys custom switches are also usually pretty great as well. Kailh BOX Jade and BOX Navy switches are out of this world for clicky fanatics like me.
Urano_Metria10/10 agree! Who the f wants cherry blues?!?!?!? or cherry in general at this point. So many other companies putting out interesting products... and not charging as much as cherry.
JadMaktabiHey I have cherry mx blues in my ctrl keyboard right now, I bought them from https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/.
The ones you need are the Cherry MX Blue Keyswitch - Plate Mount - Tactile, Click - 10 Pack
Make sure you get the plate mount, as the other version has a little extra piece you have to hack off. The plate mount needs nothing, just pop them in the keyboard and you are good to go (careful not to bend the pins though). I ordered 10 packs of 10, for a total of $50 for 100 switches. They offer a discount the more you buy up to 10 packs I believe, so it's actually cheaper to order 10 packs then say 9 packs, and you will end up with an extra 13 switches just in case you break a pin on one. Personally I've only ever used kaihl browns, cherry reds, and hall effect switches before I got these so while I don't have much to compare them to, they feel great on my keyboard and I love how it types, so I would say go for them. Hope this helps.
PatchettLet me see a photo of your CTRL in a fully lit room with backlighting on the keys. My guess is that if you used the Cherry MX Blue switches from mechanicalkeyboards.com, you no longer have backlighting on the keys.
That's what I mean by "not compatible". I obviously know that the keyboard will still function at a basic level with those switches, but they block more than 95% of the light emanating from the SMD LEDs. If you have absolutely zero interest in keycap backlighting they're fine, but I wouldn't have spent the money on the CTRL if I wasn't going to utilize the per-key RGB.
Urano_MetriaAh sorry I didn't read your post right and skipped that you specified the backlighting (I thought you meant pcb vs plate mount). And yes you are right in that it does make a sizeable difference (there is still a small slot for the led to shine through), with the lighting being very hard to notice in a bright fully lit room, but they do good enough in a dim/dark room and for me personally the strip around the case is more than enough =)

Johnny831My first mechanical was an azio with kaihl brown switches that I've used for 3 years, I liked it and it was solid and still works fine. Then I got the xmit hall effect when it first dropped and it was alright, but I realized I'm not a fan of smooth and no click so its mostly gone unused. I'm just starting to get into the "enthusiast" side of mechanicals with this ctrl and knowing mx blues are basically the gold standard that's what I went with, and I don't regret it (actually loving them). That being said the next board I get I'm definitely going to switch it up and try some of the other switches people talk about.
And as for the plug and play comment I thought the discussion was about the pcb vs plate mounted versions, of which the pcb mounted have to have a piece hacked off to work, so not plug and play.
PatchettHonestly, blues aren't the standard for anything except entry level boards. 100% overrated IMO. Look at novelkeys for a variety of better clicky options. Navies are wayyyyy better than cherry blues. Blues sound like cheap plastic breaking, can't stand them.
Johnny831Fuck off mate. This is a community. We help each others and share our findings. If you have something helpful to say then say it. Otherwise shut the f up.
Urano_Metria@Urano_Metria makes a great point. i've yet to see clear housing cherry mx in bulk. like i said above, i've personally bought the kailh jade and love them. worth the $30 i spent on them. i'm torn between them and the hako true the ctrl came with because they feel really good as well. i'm almost thinking of buying another ctrl keyboard for work to replace my nightfox keyboard.
PatchettThanks for the pictures. That's way more light going through the switches than I got when I was testing out Cherry MX Silent Reds (black housing). I assumed all the Cherry switches were the same, but I guess I was wrong. Funny thing, I'm pretty sure I know exactly what keycaps those are. When I went to buy them a couple days ago I noticed they were gone. A shame.
Urano_MetriaThat's funny because they're just a cheap silver grey double shot pbt 104 keycap set I found on amazon for $20 and came with a red keycap puller. When I clicked on the link I bought it from they're no longer on that page, but have different color sets, so it's definitely possible it's the set you found. When I ordered the ctrl I didn't realize the base kit didn't come with keycaps (Which I wanted) so I just went and found the first decent looking cheap set I could. Planned on upgrading to something like Miami dolche in the future anyway haha.
Johnny831Thanks for the help mate. I didn't appreciate the fuckinggoogleit answer above. This is way better. Keep up the good work and maybe someday you'll become a better person. Now either be pleasant and helpful or f off with your trying to be smart answers. All love.
