Led by engineer Don Campbell, a longtime guitar player and percussionist, Persona Medical set out to create a better kind of earplug: one that’s comfortable, virtually invisible, reusable, and easy to clean Read More
KJ741N Mr. [deleted user], what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
KJ741NGot it just right. Pisses me off to no end that I have to wear earplugs that ruin the music because j--cka-ses on the sound board are half deaf, especially at upper freqs. At least freq analyzers/db meters are cheap enough that some are starting to use them as supplements -- or have customers who do and then can back up their complaints. I've lost the superior upper end hearing I used to have to age/years of live music (and on one side thanks to being in the wrong place when an unused speaker suddenly erupted at max volume, literally --yes, actually -- dropping me to my knees) so I resent losing what's left of the actual instrument sounds to muffling because the volume approaches Euro-disco levels.
Everyone who works sound should be required periodically to start a concert with one foam earplug in, then remove it at the break. Music and conversation is so much clearer on one side. Cymbals sound like a different instrument in each ear.
2 Year Review of my EARasers
Style:
I bought these mostly because I wanted ear plugs that are discrete, so that when i'm at loud bars/clubs/concerts I don't get weird looks for wearing earplugs. They serve this purpose excellently. I've never had anyone notice them, that i'm aware of.
Comfort/fit:
I find that they are fine to wear for many hours on end, but by the end of the day I'm happy to take them out. So there's some fatigue over time but it's slight. They definitely aren't as comfortable as regular foam earplugs. At least for me. I also realized that really i should have two different sized ones, one for each ear, and its a shame that they don't offer that option.
Sound Attenuation/Performance:These definitely don't reduce SPL as much as regular foam plugs. From my guess (I used to audio edit/mix indie films, and I still work in video production today) they cut an a-weighted average of 10 db less than regular foam plugs. But, it's certainly a more even cut of frequencies than regular foam plugs, the highs aren't cut as severely. Where the foam ones would cut 10khz by 40db, these are more like 20db.
At really loud concerts, talking 110+ db, I bring these and some foam plugs, because sometimes these just don't cut enough sound (Yes, even with a good seal). So I swap out the EARasers for the foam ones when it gets super loud.
TLDR:
I really like my EARasers and would recommend them to anyone who wants discrete earplugs and modest SPL attenuation. But they aren't the most comfy and don't reduce sound as much as i would like sometimes.
rhuntTheir review/evaluation is spot on. Bring foam earplugs for the occasional "turned up to 11!" gigs, but otherwise EARasers hold their own everywhere. Because of their low profile, I'm able to use them for DJing techno on loud soundsytems with headphones (also boosted by a headphone amplifier) and can mix properly. Others popped out too much and my headphones would push them in my ears dangerously deep. Music's still louder than safe, but I get an accurate picture of what the music sounds like to everyone, and for layered/textured techno it's important.
gzhang11Do NOT use these for shooting! They're not designed for transient protection, they're designed for flat response. For shooting, you want something that has more extreme protection, like ear-muff-style protectors!
Mediums in both I believe. The EARasers are much better at letting the midrange through. They take down the highs the most and taper well to the bass. In most crappy venues, the highs are too powerful while the bass is weaker so the EARasers balance it all.
I'm sorry, but why the hell can't these tiny ear plugs be shipped to Canada? That seems ridiculous to me. I was really looking forward to a nice set of plugs that I don't have to shell out a couple hundred bucks for and have custom molded, but apparently that's not going to happen. Massdrop never ceases to disappoint with their shipping options.
NoroThese will not distort or muffle the sound you hear like normal plugs do (in theory). The idea is that you can hear the almost full range of sounds, just quieter. Normal plugs will distort what you hear and lose the softer and more nuanced tones and make music sound like it has less dept. I don’t know if these work, but that’s what they’re are supposed to do
