Aren't DCS caps better/more ergonomic (curved profile vs flat)?

Why are there so few commits on the DCS drop?

mooswaMost likely people are buying the ergodox kit with the keycaps, instead of buying just the keycaps.

blueshaedowBut kit comes with inferior DSA set! I think the best strategy is to commit to the lowest price of the DCS set - also $45. If it is met, just edit your ergodox kit order to exclude DSA set.

mooswahere are the specifications from signature plastics: http://www.solutionsinplastic.com/pdfs/DSAFamily.pdf http://www.solutionsinplastic.com/pdfs/DCSFamily.pdf
Another difference: DSA has a spherical top DCS has a cylindrical top
Maybe people like more the retro look spherical top is giving

mooswaAlso if you are using alternative layouts then DCS may be a bad idea.

mooswaWhat makes you say that DSAs are inferior? They aren't flat, they're spherical which, to me, is more ergonomic for fingertips.

farinasaFlat not in the sense of individual key cap, but of overall keyboard. See this:
http://deskthority.net/wiki/Keyboard_profile
"The reason for a curved profile is ergonomics: to even out the distance that the fingers have to move for typing on different rows."

DSA (in the kit) are flat, DCS (separate group buy) are contured(Signature Plastics call it sculptured).
Signature Plastics site mentiones on the FAQ: "the DSA family was mainly created for industrial applications".

didierMay be. Well, if someone makes a concious choice of looks over ergonomics so be it. I am more concerned with people who might not realize they have this choice and who just go with the default avalable in the kit.

mooswaAhhh, now I see. Thanks for clearing that up. I think I will be joining the DCS drop now. I thought they WERE flat like a dell keyboard or something. You can get regular ass DCS and DSA from signature plastics anytime. And fairly cheaply too. Now if you want to get crazy, check out the sculptured SA Honeywell group buy over at deskthority.

farinasaI am myself salivating over solarized penumbra set on geekhack - to match my vim colorscheme :-) Alas, sets with enough vertical keys to cover ErgoDox are rare. That what makes the DCS drop so compelling.

mooswaDo you know how well the SA caps in the solarized set might work with the ErgoDox layout, since they are sculptured?
I really like that color scheme and am thinking of getting one of those sets (or one of the cheaper vortex double-shot sets I linked to earlier), and ordering one-off blanks of the few keys that aren't covered.

mooswaYou are awesome. I hadn't seen that one. Guess I need to spend more time on geekhack. Those look great, and now my wallet is empty. Thanks for sharing.

jefferaiAlphas should be ok, but the problem is where to get all the 'unique' ergodox extra keys, - 4 x 2-units for thumb cluster, 12 x 1.5-units 'modifiers'. You could get individual SA caps from SP, but getting the right color is going to be expensive/impossible without a group buy. The best bet is probably to lobby bunnylake on geekhack to add ergodox kit option. I bet it will be more then 45$ though. I think DCS drop is really great, wish there were more participants.
