Spanish for wasp, the Avispa from ESEE is swift and packs a sting. With a 5-inch handle and a 3.5-inch blade made from easy-to-sharpen AUS-8 stainless steel, it’s plenty big enough for tough cutting tasks Read More
This type of selling platform underscores why ESEE will not sell direct to Amazon, Planet Optical or Massdrop. When a seller drives the price to below where any dealer can sell and then 'owns' that market they drive all other dealers out. The result is an unhealthy market where the price is so low the designers and manufacturing comapnies will not longer design and supply product. The result? You, the consumer, lose. It is great for the consumer in the very short term. But selling platforms like this are short sighted and not concerned for a healthy market.
The other less obvious negative here is these selling platforms have no knowledge of what they are selling. You cannot call and ask a technical question and get an answer based on knowledge and experience with knives and the outdoors.
The folks at ESEE are pure capitalists at heart and all businesses have to make a profit to be viable but this type of selling is about killing all competition ultimately leaving the consumer with no choices.
Just food for thought when you go looking for the cheapest price out there. Buy from authorized ESEE dealers.
Mike Perrin, ESEE Knives, USA
I understand it, my point is that much 'map pricing' is made up by manufacturers and it's arbitary. The great thing about MassDrop (and Amazon with appropriate delivery address) is that I can buy from other regions and save large amounts. Like I said, 40% saving without trying (and the parcel being consolidated and sent cheaply).
MikePerrinNice to see you jumping in here and defending your overpriced differentially heat treated 1095. I have one of your fixed blades, Wild Boar Killer, or something to that effect. I really like the knife, even if I'm too old and decrepit to go after one with nothing but this knife. Maybe a tracked, armored vehicle with .50 caliber...or surface to surface missiles. I like the RAT1 far better than that Avispa or Zancudo. I have both. EDLIDs.
any one else think its almost an exact copy of the Ontario rat 1 knife? yes the blade shapes a little different and its a frame lock. but handle shape looks the exa same to me.
FYI - I have the D2 Avispa and own a Zancudo. GREAT knives. BUT... while they share the ESEE name, it's only by design. they are manufactured by Blue River Knives (hence the BRK designation on the knife) and are not covered by the no-questions-asked warranty that ESEE offers. That being said, I love it and feel that it is a step up from the Rat 1 series from OKC.
The ganzo 440c is junk for long cutting tasks. Will require sharpening often through the job. Aus8 will last longer but not by that much as it too will require to be sharpened at least once during single long cutting sessions. D2 on the other hand will last until the job is done and possibly still be good for edc'ing after. Tho it's best to at least strop the edge after a large job, as d2 takes a while to sharpen after dulling. 154cm on the other hand will last through the job and very easy to sharpen. Strops are idea to touch any knife up tho.
When edc'ing any steel your only taking the knife out to do small minor tasks so edges often last longer. People's perception can be way off in this respect.
Anyways I hope this helps. I would say buy one 40$ or buy two $20 knives. It's up to you. I buy the $200+ knives myself. I only sharpen then once in a while oppose to often and I like quality better than the sub 100 knives that often lack that quality.
typhoonpcWon't take you long to realize their prices are as terrible as their customer service which is almost as terrible as their "expected shipping dates" which for some reason take two plus months to be delivered. Are you familiar with the term shit show??
I joined the drop for the AVISPA AUS-8 knife a few months ago and have been loving mine. It's thinner than most of my knives, especially of this size., but it's still a great fit in the hand. D2 is a harder steel, I'd like to have the D2 version, but I can't justify getting two of the same knife.
PrxlinkIt is not assisted opening, which is good because those are illegal in AUS - you wouldn't know the difference though, great knife. Wish I hadn't dropped mine down a well.
I was wondering if anyone knows how the knife opens?
I'm inexperienced buying knives and live in NZ so i'd like to double check before making a decision :)
Thanks!
I've got this and its little bro the Zancudo.
While retention isn't the best, they take an absolutely ridiculous edge. Like 'sharpest things I own' kind of edges. And I have 200+ knives.
They are to be abused - at this price you're not going to be too upset if you manage to break it or lose it.
JamesAshAus8 gets sharp easy but if you are an expert sharpener you can get anything that sharp tbo.
The thing with aus8 is you have to re sharpen during single larger jobs. Not an idea for heavy working. Something like 154cm would be better suited for longer single cutting tasks. But for average use aus8 us great and will have to touch up or sharpen every few days.
I very much agree with with the D2 comments.
Also, is anyone else not finding shipping costs on items, anymore? No item I've looked at in weeks has had shipping costs listed anywhere. Am I crazy?
