Aside from price, what could be a reason to buy these over the Halos that are currently available? Does Gateron do anything special in the way of the guts that wouldn't be found in a Cherry, Kailh, Outemu, etc? Like how the YOK pandas pair well with the Halo stem because their housing is tighter, would there ever be a reason to buy Gateron Browns/Clears over Halo? Not hating, just curious.

JrezkyGateron is the low end on price. Halos are like mid tier price. Zeal switches are high end price. Hard to compare price different tiers (Civic vs Corvette vs Ferrari). Everything is subjective. I think Cherry switches are super wobbly and scratchy. Maybe they've improved since.

erickongSo the answer mainly is the price and level of quality after all? I understand from forums and such that Cherry has moved down in the low tier, which I find unfortunate for the brand association, but it means that Kailh and Gateron are providing more choices for the market. As I said I'm not knocking Gateron, but I guess since I can afford it I might as well step up. I guess I could have gone the Alps route which I hear is a good option. However, despite my interest in the Amber Alps, there seems to be so much more customization with Cherry stems. I'm new to the hobby and I find it a tad strange that I don't even need to start in the low tier like people used to when Cherry was kinda THE mechanical switch scene from what I remember of the 00's. As a newcomer, it feels like Kailh is the hot one right now, at least way above Cherry. I bought the makings for some Holy Pandas, if Zeal are really a step above that then I can't wait for the 72-switch tester to come which has Zeals on it.

JrezkyTry it, they beat Tealios to hell. Nathan said Gateron Yellows have very good quality of mx springs way more better than most of the custom springs in this market. I would say without hesitation, Gateron Yellows are the linear switches with the highest price-performance ratio.

JrezkyEven you don't like linear switches, this would still be a bargain if you just want to harvest the springs from Gateron Yellows and throw the housings and stems.

Tac_TauInteresting. I'd be happy to find a linear I actually like, the fact I can try the springs elsewhere is a plus. What else do people use the gat yellow springs in? Zealios or HPs?

JrezkyThis is quite old at this point, but I should mention it just in case people are still looking. Be careful with the zeal aqua version of switches. While zeal switches are very smooth, the aqua variants have had some kinda weird issue where if you take them apart (lube, film, swap out parts, etc), they rattle after re-assembly cause the leaf gets loose or something. Again, this is mainly an issue with the aqua variants. Other interesting switches consist of alpacas (by durock), tangerines (though I've heard mix reviews about those) , creams (by novelkeys) are a good option as well, and there's an ic for hhhh h1 switches which seem interesting. What did you end up going with?

dwang040I am currently running the gat yellows actually right now on my preonic, with HPs on the num row and modifiers and a few NK_ sherbets for things like esc and the layer buttons. I did get some tangerine v2s and they are awesome, plan to get more to repace the yellows. Also ordered some silent alpacas to test out.

JrezkyNice. The tangerine v2 look interesting. Currently using the gateron varient and well, bring gateron milky top and black bottom, they type well like the others. Was interested in the v2 but heard mixed reviews about it, but the stem material is really interesting. Let me know what you think of the alpacas. Really interested in those.
