I just received this drop. I've got a reasonably big head (hat size 7 7/8) and the neck section is so narrow that I can't even get that past the crown of my skull. Is this an aberration or design? Anyone else have trouble with this?
chengdiggerThis is definitely a mistake in manufacturing. I wear a size 7 3/4, and it fits me well. Send me an email and we can get this resolved! Ben@goosefeetgear.com

for those that have worn both, how does this compare to the EE Hoodlum?

You can't compare the fill weights between down and synthetic in any meaningful regards other than pack weight.
Check out https://support.enlightenedequipment.com/hc/en-us/articles/218158988-Compare For the same temp rating the Apex revelation is 10oz heavier than the 950 fp down.

PunkdigeratiGood point on comparing down to synthetic!
However, not it is not 10oz, you are comparing synethic quilt/bag with down. For the diff in this head wear with down at 1.3oz, and the EE synthetic at 1.4oz or 1.9oz (depending on how much you put in), it is .1oz to .6oz different, quite a bit less than 1 oz.
I guess it is a wash, go with either, surely won't go wrong. I would not give up my down quilt, but I do use a synthetic puffy coat over down, so when I sweat in it or get light rain, it still keeps me dry, I'd not do that in a down puffy coat.
Each has it's use and that also depends on how you use it, so plan it out, pick one and be happy adn warm!

Best head gear I have ever hunted with. 30 ft. in a tree stand with 25mi./hr. winds and 21 degrees and my head stayed very warm. A deer did tell me I looked quite stupid in it. Best product!

This looks like it would be quite nice for hammock camping or using with a top quilt. I already have a Blackrock down beanie and an extra hood off my Feathered Friends Volante jacket that I use for similar purposes.

OldTrailDogI picked up a blackrock down beanie on the last drop. Once the package was opened, SWMBO decided she loved it. I’m hoping I can keep this one.

@GooseFeet can you tell us what the biggest driver of the "MSRP" on this Massdrop Exclusive to $80 when your base 20d balacavas on your website show starting at $65? Is the fabric that much more? 950 fill vs. 850 fill? Something other? Frankly those small differences with their tiny fractional weight difference seem more about "fashionable" than function.
As an aside, I have owned a pair of your down socks and over booties for 3 or so years and love them!

@GooseFeet I should add that I do own a down balacava also. Without actually digging it out to look at tags, I don't recall whether I purchased it from Goosefeet Gear or the ZPacks version also made by Goosefeet Gear. I'm considering another as a gift for someone. Really leaning more toward ordering direct from you rather than this MD version.

Wish this had a choice to have a APEX fill. Not everyone can enjoy down and it would be cool to think of those people because they enjoy backpacking also.

Okay, Massdrop - Why do you show a regular price of $80, when the manufacturer shows it as $65? https://goosefeetgear.com/products/down-balaclava/ A discount of $5 plus a shipping charge of $9.25 for an article that weighs 1.3 oz (you show 1.0 oz on your specs) is no incentive for me to consider a purchase, and to inflate the regular price like this is just bad business practice....

CanadaGooseEDIT: Please disregard my post as I am in error. This particular hood is not the one shown on the GG website, and appears to be specially made and offered to the MD community. It uses a 9d nylon as opposed to the regular 20d, and 950 fill instead of the normal 850 fill. I should have seen the "exclusive" tag in the headline, and read the specs more carefully...

Massdrop, two writeup glitches I would like to point out: First, a typo on the double fill weight: "1.5 oz (43 oz)" second one should be in grams.
Second, the description implies that the standard Goosefeet balacava is made from 10d fabrics. Although they are offered as an option at a slightly higher price, the base price $65 balacavas on their site list 20d - and their USA shipping is free.
