A solid manual grinder
I used to have one of those electric blade spice grinders and once I learned the error of my ways I got this conical burr hand grinder. It has served me well for at least a year now, is easy to adjust and clean. Pro-tip, if you're careful, you can attach a small hand-held drill to the top and presto! you have an electric grinder now.

Great back up grinder! Unfortunately, with every day use, mine fell and broke, as the base is glass. The included rubber sleeve didn’t do much to protect it, falling counter-to-floor. The good news is, it will screw onto any standard mason jar!

Pretty much what's advertised.
The manual grinding can be a little hard at first--but you get used to it. The attached jar can hold about 2-3 servings of coffee (if you're using a french press). The directions were suprisingly good. No complaints so far.
