Hey guys,
Just to clarify on the keycap situation for the backlit version of the Poker II.
We have confirmed with our vendor that it will indeed come with PBT keycaps. And it'd be the standard white PBT keycaps that comes with the non-backlit version of the keyboard.
nelsonSince you are the third person from MD and the big gun of the company commenting on this product, I believe you are acknowledging the on-going issues of poor accuracy of product descriptions.
Can the vendor send you a picture to prove it? I don't know about other people, but I don't have much confidence since the (Poker 2 MX Clear) fiasco yesterday.
Providing a picture of the said product can boost the confident in your customers, and to hold you accountable of your words.
If the backlit version indeed comes with PBT caps, I would this is a heck of a deal to miss.
nelsonIs this to say that the backlight is effectively pointless?
i.e. the light won't actually shine through the letters and the keycaps are going to be solid PBT with printed lettering?
If so I'd definitely like to know so I can change my order options or cancel my order entirely.
bassI wouldn't say it's pointless.
Yes, it does mean it's useless in helping you identify keys in a dark environment, but asthetically it can still look quite nice, especially if the keycaps do not bleed the light through them.
An example (not my image)
bass@bass,
I understand your concern. From our end, especially since we are dealing with international vendor, we are very conscious of the sheer amount of due diligence required to make sure the vendors, ourselves, as well as the participating members are all on the same page.
However, since we are pre-selling the keyboard that's currently in production, it is simply not possible for our vendor to acquire the picture of the batch of keyboard that's allocated to us.
Having said that, I've had numerous calls with the vendor last two days going over all the details for this drop again. And during each call, I was assured white PBT keycaps (non-shine through) would come with the backlit keyboard. Given our working relationship with this vendor in the past, we are very confident we will be able to get everyone what's promised.
And lastly, there's no excuses for the inconsistent production information. We had a hiccup in our process. We simply moved too fast and launched this drop a bit too quickly (middle of a long weekend no less). We had team meeting about this (also in the middle of this long weekend no less), and will be implementing additional checkpoints to prevent this from happening again.
nelsonHi Nelson,
I thought you said you and your team had a meeting on due diligence about the accuracy of product information. But then, on the Leopold FC660M w/ MX Clear switch, the same staff member of yours made the exact same mistake (inaccurate product description on product origin) that he made on a the soon-ending Leopold FC660M drop. Same type of mistake in a week. Where is the due diligence?
I am simply to hold you and your company accountable to your words, which I haven't seen enough of it. It is just a bad operation strategy for not having accountability for any type of organization. Don't get me wrong, I like this group buy service you guys have going here. However, the lack of accountability and due diligence on your part makes me to think, if MD goes downhill one day, all people will remember Massdrop as a nicely designed website providing group buy service running by a bunch of non-professionals.
For accountability, when people can't keep their stories consistent, that means they are NOT being honest and try to hide something. For example, check out the discussion going for the TEX aluminum case drop page.
You as the CTO of MD, can you explain the removal of the "talk" tab on the top of the page? Talking about accountability, removing the "talk" section from the top of the page is a sign of your company's accountability going down the drain, because you don't want people to find out more information for a reason.
People do notice change of things.
bass@bass We are really appreciative of our community keeping us honest, and make sure we deliver above and beyond the high standard that are expected of us. I definitely want to talk to you more about the points you raised, but I am afraid doing so here will distract from the main focus here.
I just shot you an email, let's continue with the discussion there :)
nelsonHi Nelson, I received your email.
However, by sending me an email directly and asking to discuss via email in private over open forum on your company's current problem, it seems like you are trying to sort things out under the table. Thus, it shows that your company lacks of transparency and accountability.
That is a bad move for PR and community engagement's sake.
I don't know if you guys have a COO. If not, hire one and he/she can help you sort out the problems.
bassWhile I understand what you are saying, you also have to understand that this is the discussion area for the Poker II. It would be cool if there was a forum of some sort where we could talk about general things with the MD group, but there isn't. I think discussing it via e-mail is a much better path to take right now than to blow this discussion thread for the Poker II up about MD's recent actions.
bass@bass , as much as I agree a company should be transparent and truthful with their customers, I think what @nelson was trying to say and also what @andrew.b is trying to say is that this discussion is NOT about Massdrop as a company, but about the product in the GB (in this case the Poker II). It seems as if you are looking for a reason to attack Massdrop as a company, and I think that's something you should talk about in a more private and professional environment other than a simple forum like this one. Obviously Massdrop is still a very young company, but there is no reason to shoot them down when they are obviously trying their best to provide a service, which I think they are doing a brilliant job of.
