Ken Onion developed the SpeedSafe assisted-opening mechanism, and its application on the Leek has made this folder a staple in the EDC community. The Leek’s drop-point blade shape and slim, tapered profile allow it to excel in both slicing and detail work Read More
Decent light-use knife, but disappointed overall. The handle is Not only carbon fiber. It is Stainless Steel with carbon fiber overlays. This makes the knife about twice as thick as the standard Leek. This is unacceptable. It also makes it much heavier than it could be if it were only carbon fiber. The liner lock does not fully engage the blade and is not trustworthy. The safety lock sticks hard after a few minutes, requiring two hands to disengage it to open the blade - rendering the one-handed fast action meaningless. The blade came dull from the factory - it would not even slice copy paper. Ten minutes on a strop remedied that, but it should have been sharp from the factory. Needs drilled on both ends of both sides for the pocket clip so you can put it where you want it. And it also needs a deep-carry clip option - the factory clip leaves a significant length of knife sticking out of your pocket and it hits everything and is obvious as a third arm. It's not worth wasting the money to send it back - it would be nice if Kershaw or MD would at least send me a deep carry pocket clip and a set of shorter screws at no charge so that I could remove the stainless handle and I could work on the rest of the problems myself.
stoutdogCould be. But with the money I already have in it, and as disappointed as I am with it's weight, thickness, and clip location, it's definitely not worth any more of my money to pay the freight to send it back.
Very nice, smooth opening. Nice dressed up fancy to go out knife. The blade lock is kind of clumsy. But that said, I don't really use them on my other knives except for the self openers.
Pretty great little knife. I already had a standard BW Leek with the 14C28N(that may be wrong but you know what I’m talkin about) that I bought very early in my knife life and have always appreciated how light and pocketable it is while still being plenty big enough to do 99% of what I need a knife for. So when I saw this with CF and CPM154 for ONLY $65, I could not pass it up. As far as the knife itself, it’s on par with other Leeks I’ve owned/handled. The blade snaps out quickly with very little pressure applied to the minimal flipper tab. Lockup is good and no blade play. Only negatives were a little bit of lock stick initially, but a pencil and time has alleviated that, and the blade is off center and I cannot for the life of me get it centered. It does make slight contact with one side of the liners when closing it if you put any side pressure so I just try n make sure I’m keeping equal vertical pressure when I close it. Other than, it came pretty sharp, plenty sharp enough anyways, and the CF scales look and feel great. I replaced the standard hardware with some bronzed titanium hardware and it just looks super classy now. Ha. So, in summary, really good knife for an even better price. Would highly recommend. Thanks MD and Kershaw! Keep it up!
I have 3 of these; black aluminum, plain aluminum and now the carbon fiber version. By far one of my favorite EDC knives. This one is incredibly sharp and perfect size. The thumb lock is a bit harder to close than my other but hopefully it will break-in over time. 4.5 stars
