I never said I don't shop around, we'd be stupid not to. If I see an item on here I'm interested in, I immediately shop the item to see if it's a good deal or not. If it is, I'm in, if not, I just wait for something else and I don't bash Massdrop.
I didn’t take Zane’s comment and link that way at all. Whether he’s an amazon affiliate or not, the point is this site is all about collective buying to get special deals on things the community loves. When massdrop continually creates drops for the same prices availabLe elsewhere, or worse yet with high shipping costs and lengthy waits, it should be considered a public service announcement when a community member points out the other option. If you want to blindly buy on massdrop, that’s fine. But point is massdrop will lose its community if it doesn’t significantly differentiate.
KavikNot really.. Keyshaw has become like Gerber on other brands.. some are blister packed hanging on shelves. Fortunately Massdrop is offering higher end knive.
Kershaw makes good budget knives. The Zing is made from 8cr13mov stainless steel, a good budget steel for the money that sharpens fairly easy, gets razor sharp and hold an edge a reasonable amount of time for it's price. The handle obviously lacks any kind of texture so it might get a little slick. The blade shape and design of this knife make it more of a gentlemen's EDC rather than a substitute for a multitool. Any prying you attempt is likely to snap the narrow tip, as it's designed more for slicing or piercing. As with any knife this one will need maintaining: cleaning after use, periodically sharpening, lubrication, adjusting of the pivot screw when necessary, and keep an eye on screws backing out and maybe applying a bit of threadlock. Idiots who don't maintain their knives and then complain deserve what they get. There is no such thing as a maintenance free knife that stays sharp all by itself.
As for price, this is $1.89 less than Amazon right now, but you have to pay $2.75 shipping, so if you have free prime shipping or are ordering $25+ then the Amazon price is better. This knife was $12.99 about a year ago from one retailer, but they charge pretty high shipping and I don't think that price is coming back.
If you want this knife then this is a good price for it, but not so much that you can't pass it up if you aren't in love with this particular knife.
rshveyda There is no such thing as a maintenance free knife that stays sharp all by itself. Actually, there is. I have a Steel Will Cutjack that I have not taken out of the box. I agree with the content of your post.
Wow. I'm no knife expert but I know Kershaw is held in high regard for quality product. Honestly, this lost me as soon as I zoomed in on the blade and it said China! There are just some things you draw a line on. A quality knife would be one of them
It's not that at all. I'd be willing to pay 3 times aa much. Just disappointed is all. I get electronics and such, but knives, guns, and things that make us Americans, I just feel should be made here
RobhimselfYou get what you pay for, more or less, so you can't take a $20 Kershaw such as the Zing in this drop and compare it to WE and Kizer knives that cost 3x-5x as much. In their price range the Chinese made Kershaws are solid choices. I don't know why folks continue to poop on budget knives because there are better knives available for more money. Of course there are. ANY knife "deal" should be judged on quality vs price, and apples should be compared to apples. The Kershaw Zing for $20 bones is not crap.
Much bitching about the price (as usual on knife drops), but I wish to point out that just because the price is bad, it doesn't mean the knife is bad--the two shouldn't be confused. It's like Trump--just because he's an idiot, doesn't mean he's not a moron. Catch my drift?
Yes, nothing like politics to brighten everyone's morning. You can't box me in, brother. I despise politics and politicians alike, and I will NEVER place my faith in a person for government office. You can say whatever you wish about Trump, I'm simply showing you anything you choose can, and will, simply be turned and demonstrated equally and oppositely at the other side. Further, I don't watch fnf's, as I have a job. Keep fishing. Comprende?
brofeelgoodI'm really happy for those that have received their shipment notifications. I'm not amongst the lucky ones, sadly. In my case, multiple exchanges have only led to more hollow claptrap about how there is no update available but the order cannot be cancelled because, by some unfathomable miracle, there is information however that the 'shipping line has manifested', whatever that's supposed to mean.
Drop has done a marvellous job spinning casuistry and absolutely nothing to look after the interests of loyal customers who just want to be treated fairly and with honesty. Frustration and disappointment doesn't even begin to express what many of us have been made to go through in the last couple of weeks. It's the poorest customer service I've encountered on any online platform. So much for wanting to effectively represent communities. If that truly is the goal, then Drop you really need to buck up your ideas and sharpen up your attitude towards your customers before everyone on here loses faith completely and brings their support elsewhere.
@Tyler@JonasHeineman : this knife is not shipping to Canada (it's OK with me). But is this the start of a trend, or just a fluke?
I've bought many knives here on Massdrop and have never had a shipping problem to Canada, I hope that's not going to change? I hope to be able to continue to cater to my blade addiction here on Massdrop...
Please advise, thanks!
BobrazI concur. I have never had an issue after a handful of knives brought across the border, including the last Faxion Kershaw with Speedsafe. However, the Kershaw website does now have a note on all Speedsafe knives that the CBSA has banned their products, and will not ship them to Canada, or something of the like.
