First and last time I will ever do anything with Massdrop. What a hassle to have to deal with the emails and the waiting and the excuses. Just my two cents but i'd rather pay full retail at goblet pens or amazon than have to wait till who knows when for people to get their act together.
Funny, I didn't notice the disclaimer "time and convenience have a price." I just sort of expected that if someone isn't able to do a job or correctly fill an offer at a low price, they just would have the decency not to do it.
A tipped gold nibb should not be scratchy. This pen is known for being a smooth writer.
I was considering this before I read that so many buyers had issues, which lead me to think the pens in the drop might be seconds.
The drop price is far below wholesale, and is the most steeply discounted pen, percentage-wise, I've seen in MD.
Thanks for the update and for successfully negotiating a freebie for those of us waiting. It goes above and beyond Massdrop's responsibility in this instance.
And, as others have stated, I don't really blame Massdrop for this fiasco. While I would hope it would be a good lesson to them regarding distributors and large sum transactions, I don't believe that they have, in any way, acted in anything other than good faith for us, the buyers.
I will say, that I believe the distributor seems to be disorganized and playing games with Massdrop. But I'll leave them to deal with that.
Thanks. Any information is appreciated, I just got the feeling that the last post was a bit harsh and tried to pass the buck from MD to the distributor. Thanks for the clarification; online postings - especially - are always open to misinterpretation and I'm glad the conversation is an ongoing on with MD.
Mark,
After rereading your response, I still have a few questions, comments and suggestions. As this particular drop is winding down, what is the best way to continue this conversation with you more directly?
Cheers.
Short update for you folks today, I am trying to get to the bottom of this for you all, but due to the weekend things are a bit slower on Monday for both the vendor and the shipper.
The vendor is currently coordinating with the shipper on the misplaced shipment. In the meantime they are putting together another shipment for us and will have more news for us tomorrow.
In regards to the freebie, we are actively pushing for you folks and haven't reached an agreement with the vendor quite yet, but we will continue to work on this with the vendor and let you all know what they can do.
Our primary concern is to get another reshipment in as soon as possible. Whether that is the original shipment or a new shipment we are working on it and this is a priority. Stay tuned and expect an update from us with concrete info over the next couple of days.
Thanks for your patience and expect an update from us on 11/27 or sooner if something comes up.
this really straightforward. ship times are estimates due to the nature of massdrop and as such you get nothing if it doesnt come on the estimate, so your dostoevsky length whining about them giving you free stuff is quite the looking of the gift horse in the mouth.
if you want guaranteed shipping dates and subsequently to be compensated in that case, cancel your order and go to Amazon.
tcmtcmShort version: Thanks for your response. Noted. Previous offending passages have been edited.
Long version:
Thank you for your feedback.
I agree that the dates are estimates. I wish they were given as a date range.
The freebie was brought into the conversation by @HassanS. I was earnestly offering a suggestion as to what form the lagniappe could take - something that everyone would appreciate. However, others (@robert.harris, @Brightman) have also offered great ideas.
For me, it's a learning experience. Having read discussions of other drops, I now know that delivery dates can vary widely. I also know that Massdrop is committed to making sure participants get the product in the end.
I apologize if my two previous posts seemed whining - certainly not my intention. In retrospect, I can see how certain paragraphs could be taken as such and have made what I hope are appropriate edits. My musings on possible reship dates were meant to be read without inflection. And certainly without whine.
On the contrary, I'm quite impressed with the way Massdrop and @HassanS is going to bat on our behalf.
And yes, I tend to ramble. I'm working on that.
Sigh, I hate to be the bearer of further bad news folks, but it looks like the vendor shipped these to the American Heartland (Iowa) instead of to our warehouse in New Jersey.
I have written them an email outlining the following actions I need them to take:
1. Process another shipment
2. Send shipment via an expedited method (minimum 2 day UPS Ground)
3. Requested for them to throw in something for the community for being so patient throughout the process
I anticipate hearing back from them tomorrow and will be able to provide the group more information then.
In the meantime we will be doing everything we can so that the group gets their orders as soon as they can regardless of the events that have come up.
We understand this delay is rather undesirable. If you prefer not to wait for the pens and want to have your order cancelled, just email us at support@massdrop.com, and we will process the refund right away.
If there’s any feedback or concerns, please feel free to email us back at support@massdrop.com
Thanks for your patience on these and expect an update from us on 11/24 or sooner if something comes up. We will work tirelessly to get this issued resolved for the group.
HassanSThank you, again, for this clear, honest and comprehensive reply. Thank you, also, for providing the option to "opt out" for those of us that feel the wait is simply too long. I plan on sticking with the drop and my attitude toward Massdrop is greatly improved by both this communication and the "opt out" offer.
Thanks again.
it-manI basically learned to write with one. That's why I couldn't think of a better avatar than their logo.
I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them.
However, I only have a basic Geha Champion (the one with air-cushion grip). I don't use it that much, but when I do, I'm back in 3rd grade :D
Not enough people in the Drop, maybe they should consider delivery outside of the USA, I tried to join the drop only to discover they won't send to Australia. What is the reasoning for this? Not like they're a knife or a restricted weapon... It's a pen.. Though the adage about the pen being mightier than the sword.... Maybe someone has taken this a little too literally. : )
Why is this a drop?
A Best of Massdrop?
Amazon prime and Jet.com sell it for $120.
The EF for even less.
It ships to the US only, so its not one of those depends-where-you-live drops either.
So, why is this a drop again?
TherocGood question, since Amazon and JetPens.com both ship to US addresses, so I am wondering as well. Even with enough people, the price here is not very competitive with other, current retailers. I got mine from JetPens.com a while ago in EF and love it. One of the reasons I joined Massdrop was supposedly for good deals on fountain pens, fountain pen ink, and fountain pen friendly paper.
To folks griping about receiving the wrong nib and getting offended that Massdrop isn't bending over backward for you: this is the tradeoff you accept for being able to buy a $130 pen for $90. Because of the MD purchasing model, which can get us a very good discount, there's a limit to the kinds of service they're able to offer. There was a problem with the order or the supplier or who knows what. It happens, and a refund is certainly adequate; no harm, no foul. If you want fancy customer service, pay more for your stuff. That's where that money goes.
jah1138Dude...seriously, if you have nothing to help. If you're happy with what you got, then great, congratulations. But don't put down or electronically spit on the situation SEVERAL other people are going through, which affects you NOT IN THE SLIGHTEST.
