Among the oldest shoemakers in England, Loake 1880 is still run today—five generations after its founding—by the Loake family. Like its founders did in the 19th century, the company constructs each pair of shoes in its 1880 line using a Goodyear welt, which allows the shoes to be resoled. And the Kempton chukkas are no different. Featuring a brown suede upper and full leather lining, they’re built on the standard-fitting 026 last with a rubber Dainite sole. Simple but striking, the Kemptons go as well with jeans and a flannel as they do with trousers and tweed.
Note: Loake uses UK sizes. We recommend US customers go a full size down from their US size (if you wear a US 9, go for a UK 8). Available sizes range from UK 6 / US 7 to UK 12.5 / US 13.5.
Named for the two periods of play, called chukkas, that comprise a game of polo, chukka boots are as popular today as they were when they were invented in the 1940s. And for good reason. These ankle-high boots are both more comfortable and more versatile, without sacrificing style, than their full-length counterparts. Which makes sense: According to some sources, chukkas were designed for polo players who wanted to slip out of their riding boots and into something equally fashionable yet decidedly more hospitable.
