Among the oldest shoemakers in England, Loake 1880 is still run today—five generations after its birth—by the Loake family. Like the founders did in the 19th century, the company’s craftsmen still construct each pair of shoes in their 1880 line using a Goodyear welt, a painstaking process that ensures the shoes are recraftable for years to come Read More
After having the shoes for several weeks and having some light wear, there was a tear that occurred on the top of the right shoe. Granted, I did not condition the shoe when I first received it but I was surprised that a tear happened. When I got in touch with customer service from Loake, they responded that the damage did not seem like something they could repair. While the look an feel of these shoes were fantastic, the early damage did frustrate me quite a bit. I can still wear them but they don't look the same.
Edit: After doing some more research into leather shoes and shoe care, I bought some conditioner (Saphir Renovator) and applied it to the shoe. While some damage is still apparent, it has definitely helped reduce the damage significantly. I'll also be getting some sole guards. Ultimately, I've adjusted my review due to my increased knowledge. Definitely suggest that potential buyers watch some youtube videos on maintaining oxford shoes (conditioner, polish, brushes, sole guards, etc)
awesome looking shoes, nice presentation when opening box. Worn twice and starting to break-in nicely. Have received compliments on them. Dark brown goes nicely with chinos or black jeans
*they run larger as noted. I ordered UK12 should’ve ordered UK 11.5 for my US size 12.5-13 norm but have added an insole and they’re just fine.
Great looking shoes. A bit stiff at first, but breaking in nicely. Already got one polish on them and they are looking good. A few more and they’ll be perfect.
Very happy with my shoes. I ordered it primarily to wear with my suit for work and it's been wearing in nicely. Quality is what I expected. The shoes feel solid and well made. The thick leather sole feels solid to walk on. Nice to finally own a pair of traditional English made black Captoe Oxfords! Good price compared to how much they cost here (40% mark up). Invest in some quality shoe trees as well. I plan on having these last for a while. Thanks MD.
