Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

If I was in your shoes, already owning an HD700, I'd sell that, add the cost of the K7XX, and kick in another hundred bucks or so to get yourself a used HD800. Or, if you can find one (and you can handle 500g sitting on your head) I'd recommend the HiFiMAN HE-500.
IMO? The K7XX is easily the best sounding, most comfortable headphone available today under $300 (including it's orange tinted twin, the K712), and you might find them preferable to many others at twice that price, as I did.
Taste in sound is subjective. What you like may not be what someone else likes. For instance I wouldn't recommend the K7xx (or any open back can for that matter) for someone who brags about being a "bass head". Dollar for dollar, even if they were the same price (I've seen the X2 for $199 at times), I'd take the K7xx over the bassier and heavier (382g vs 235g) X2/27 any day. As for the DT990? I didn't like the sound (or comfort) of the DT990 or the DT880 near as well as the K7XX, and the lack of a replaceable cord ended that short lived shopping experiment for me. $149 would make them a pretty good deal but I'd take my $199 K7xx over them any day of the week.
Considering that the K7xx is "based on the K702 65th Annie" (STILL $499) and is virtually identical to the K712 Pro ($300+), I think my statement was fair, even if it was made with admitted personal bias. YMMV.
No consumer grade headphone on the market today *NEEDS* stand alone amplification, with the possible exception of a few very exotic (and expensive) planars. That the X2 will make you deaf slightly quicker than the K7xx at full volume on any of a myriad of typical amp selections (including most phones, tablets, PC sound chips, etc.) is a horrible argument for preferring one or the other. I run a desktop amp mostly for the benefit of a high quality analog volume knob at my finger tips, but I would do the same with *any* headphone, not because one "needed" it.
I've said "IMO" (In MY Opinion), I've said "YMMV" (Your Mileage May Vary, i.e. your opinion) and I even said "admitted personal bias", which means not only my opinion but my *biased* opinion... In my opinion I preferred the K7xx to the K712, the HD600, HD650, a brief session with the HD800, and the DT990, as well as several lower tier phones. I didn't get to try the X2/27 because they tend to be out of stock more often than not and the fact that they weigh nearly half as much again as the comparable AKG products caused me to lose interest.
Enjoy your headphones.
For the new owners of k7xx. Here is my experience, my K7xx get great details, dynamics and headroom when driven by dedicated amps like Darkvoice 336, Grace m9xx and even cheap Bravo ocean. For my taste, K7xx matches Darkvoice best. The portable devices, LG G3, Note 3/4 , Axon Pro, Fiio X3 and even AK JR(AK JR is power enough to drive my planar Audeze LCD2 well ) make 7xx sound dull comparing to those standalone amps I have. So if people feel K7xx sound fine already on portable devices, please do get a dedicated amplifier to release K7xx's 100% strength.
