How does this compare with Goretex and other fabrics?

To answer your question: Compared to Goretex, it’s not as waterproof. That being said, it is not the same material at all. It is not loud like Goretex ie it doesn’t have the same properties as a tarp that has been cut to act as a jacket. I’d need more info from you on what you mean by “Goretex” because Goretex is like Vibram and Dupont’s fabric is used across multiple brands in various iterations of thickness. Ultimately, Goretex isn’t a finished fabric; it’s a thread used in various thicknesses/weaves depending on the need of the buyer. It is a thin jacket, similar to a thin-layer Goretex rainshell. It is far more breathable and flexible. A spray of Sno-Seal or some Nikwax tech-wash will improve its waterproofing but you’ll lose a bit of breathability as well. Simply put, it is not a bomber rain shell. It is more like a water resistant flex jacket.

Is Rab Euro sizing?

The sizing is snug in my experience. I ordered an XL because I have a 46” chest and that was the recommended sizing. I am 6’3”, 205#, 46” chest, 36” waist. The Rab kinetic jacket fits like a tight t-shirt. I cannot wear more than a single layer underneath and still move comfortably. I wear a thin Icebreaker wool t-shirt underneath. If you want to layer buy at least a size larger than the sizing chart. The hood is unuseable in the recommended size. Drop gets the price down versus the Rab kinetic you can buy from other outdoor retailers by removing critical features like wrist cuff closures. Fantastic material, but I would get the Rab kinetic from an outdoor retailer rather than the Drop version. The savings is not worth the drafts coming up your arms in the back country.
How would this do in the snow?

Has no problems in the snow. Snow doesn't seem compelled to stick to it. The waterproofing is plenty good enough to block wet snow. It's not damaged by abrasion against hard-pack or glacier ice.
How does this jacket compare to the Outdoor Research - Foray that drops regularly for a similar, if not same price?

It's pretty different. Compared to the Foray it has
  • Stretchy fabric
  • A close-fitting hood with a wire brim (vs a more typical hood on the Foray)
  • Only one pocket on the chest. In theory those pockets would be rendered inaccessible by a harness or pack strap anyway
  • Theoretically more breathable (I'm not sweaty enough to tell)
  • Considerably lighter (6oz)
