Just got mine. The quality of the knife is flawless. I was surprised to see that the design of the engraving is different than shown here (and everywhere else on the web), as it seems that MCUSTA has altered it since then. There are a lot more Japanese characters on it, which I think looks pretty cool.

On this side it says "Sen-No-Rikyu."

And on the reverse it says "Tea Ceremony." "Chasei" seems to refer to tea, although the exact translation eludes me.
Overall it's a very cool knife, and I couldn't be happier with it. Also, amazingly, despite being declared at $130 value, there was no duties or taxes due at delivery. Never seen that happen before.

Thanks for the pics. Are you 100% sure it couldn't be neater? It does look like in the pics they didn't really put much effort into finishing

it-manI know what you mean. I also bought this knife and the lockup on mine is just terrible. The lock engages the blade way too far and is extremely difficult to close again. The feel of the lock on mine is very rough and scratchy too. This is a quality control problem that should not exist on a $100 Japan-made knife. I own dozens of liner lock knives (of all price levels) and this is the worst quality lockup mechanism I've seen. I'm very disappointed.

Well, mine arrived today - very happy with it! I got the Sen-No-Rikyu with damascus. Pic of it with a previous Massdrop buy:

I almost bought one of each. No pocket clip is a deal breaker for me. I love the look.

Zackattack91Mcusta in a nutshell. Fantastic EDC knives with no pocket clips.

Zackattack91Mcusta actually does make ONE knife with a pocket clip. It'd be cool to see Massdrop do a drop on that knife, but I'm not sure if that'd even be possible.

Why, why, why all of the English words? Why any characters at all? Why not let the beauty of the design speak for itself???

Hm, I have S35VN. How does VG10 stack up to it anyone knows? I guess it's just easier to sharpen?

SurefireVG10's not bad. Good corrosion and chipping resistance and extremely easy to sharpen to a razor edge. But much less edge retention than your S35VN (typically). So, easier to sharpen but you'll be doing it a lot more often for the same use. For a knife like this that is probably more of a collectible, large gentleman's folder or EDC rather than a hard use knife, it's perfectly fine.

Yet again, no Ieyasu with Damascus. Third time this drop hasn't had what I wanted.

Is there a pocket clip?

hoangr6Apparently not, unfortunately. It's a shame, because I would love one of these, but without a pocket clip, it's not really practical.
