The drop just finished, and I'm excited to get mine! However, I'm confused by the expected ship date of "Feb 20". Is this normal for Massdrop knives? Normal for Mcusta? I had no idea that i'd be waiting for so long (feels like an eternity in an era of 2-day amazon shipping) after the drop for it to ship. 23 days seems a little ridiculous unless they're waaaaaaay backed up.

Good looking knives. Too bad they're not autos!

Good little gentleman's folder. Blade is really pretty, and I love the organic look of the damascus. Handle is very attractive. Everything is well finished.
Keep in mind, washers are some form of plastic, so the action is decent, but unlikely to improve over time.
Still, I recommend picking one up. They really do feel high quality, even with the washers.

Mine arrived with a colorful Japanese kimono looking carrying case. The knife is sharp enough to shave, and was coated in what seemed to be mineral oil. Opening the blade, it makes a *snick* sound, where it appears the locking mechanism slightly rubs against the base of the blade, but I can't see any physical evidence of scratching or anything. The Mcusta logo is printed on the side of the blade in a somewhat unattractive manner - it has kind of a dirty appearance because the damascus steel grey tones do not blend well with the logo. It probably wont be much of a problem because it looks like you can scrape the logo off with a fingernail.

tyler256Nevermind, it only seemed like I could scrape off the logo. Fingernail shavings from attempting it made it look like it was rubbing off.

Got mine, love it, beautiful knife and a good size for a non-knife person to carry around.
However, mine does have a tiny chip in the wood at one of the screws. It’s less than would probably occur after jangling around with keys or something, but enough to tickle my perfection nerve.
Any thoughts on significance? Am I being a doofus?

All right!! I bought the +$12 ebony version, brand new in the box (which was the usual small, lame, unadorned thing; that's my only complaint with Mcusta, beautiful knife in a Wal-Mart type box) literally last week from a small merchant for $99.99. Seemed like a good deal but I had to make an on the spot decision w/o any background research, and this model was distinctly a lighter construction than my one other Mcusta, which admittedlydoes not have the hardwood adornments. Even still I was afraid I'd over paid. Glad to see I even beat the MD price. Is this drop a good discount? Im not very familiar w/ Mcusta prices and dont have time to peruse the knife websites right now.

Ah, thank you, just what I was trying to do. Spotty internet around here.
Mcusta on Amazon is weird: the same knife can vary wildly in price depending upon the seller. Thats probably indicative of either not having or not strictly enforcing an MSRP with the corporate hegemony of a Spyderco or a Benchmade.
But it also means if you take the time to look through all the listings and find the lowest price, it is probably about as inexpensive as youre going to reasonably find, unless you encounter a one-off lucky find. I rember BladeHq announced a Mcusta sale last year; it amounted to less than a half dozen model types, and none were marked down more than 10-20%. Not terrible for a sale on name-brand knives, but nothing great like their 60% off Kizer sale. So if your hesitation is based on price, I say go for it. The lower one I found was a fluke from an inexpert seller; the first and probably last time I'll have that kind of luck.

HatuletohWho cares about the box. Send it in a paper envelope as far as I care. Nice boxes just cost more money but no real benefit - same with luxury watches.
I didn't even know Vera Bradley made knife slips. Nice looking gent folder though.
