Great, but heavy
TLDR; I've been daily driving these for about 8 months now and finally felt like it was time to leave a review. These are my most expensive cans to date, and the comfort, build quality and soundstage is unlike anything I've tried before. Unfortunately though, they are also quite heavy and lead to neck strain after a few hours. Pros: Sound: For general listening, they have a great crisp, clean sound. Nothing feels muffled or muted. Instrumental and classical music sound amazing on these, and it really feels like you can hear every instrument. Build Quality: It's INSANE. It's actually one of the reasons I bought these, and I wasn't disappointed. Most planars are notorious for being fragile and easy to break or damage if you drop them. I'm not sure how much of that is real since these are my first planars, but I do know that I'm clumsy and that I drop things all the time. These headphones though are built like tanks. In case you're like me and squinting at the pictures trying to determine if everything is *really* metal, squint no more. Aside from the faux leather headband, I don't think there's any plastic in the construction of these headphones. And I've dropped them a couple times at this point without issue. There's a real 'peace of mind' factor because of that, which I think has its own value. Comfort: I know everyone is different, but for me personally these fit really well and feel comfortable, even with the stock cups. More so than headphones I've tried in the past. The only caveat to that is the weight, which I'll get to later. Look: Honestly I think they just look cool, and I especially like the style of the grills. Again everyone is different, but if you're already here you probably think so too. The look definitely holds up in person, and I'm very happy with their appearance as a part of my current setup. Packaging: One of those products that makes you feel like you bought something high-end when you unbox it. Maybe that's a little pretentious, but it definitely added to the fun of unboxing these and getting them set up for the first time. Cons: Sound: With certain songs the highs can become a little fatiguing, but it's rare. Additionally, when listening to more bass-heavy songs the bass does feel a little lacking. I'm thinking about buying some Mod House Xenon pads since other users have indicated those help with the bass. Weight: People are NOT joking about how heavy these headphones are. I suspect the weight is the down side to how well built they are. It's a shame because I really like these overall, but the neck strain gets to me after a few hours, especially after being involved in an accident which has left me with some lingering neck pain. I'm considering buying a different pair of headphones in the same price range that I can swap between, which I think would be a deal breaker for most people. Neutral: Driving ease: They are reasonably easy to drive, and you can just plug them into an audio source if you want to. But you'll definitely want a decent headphone amp to get the most out of them, which seems to be the consensus among other users. Use with an EQ: Over time I've gotten used to the sometimes fatiguing treble, and I think having an EQ has played a big part in that. An EQ can also help with the bass on these headphones, but it won't magically turn them into something for a basshead. The bottom line: You can almost certainly find better sounding planars in the same price range, but that doesn't mean these will disappoint. And you definitely won't find anything so well built below $1,000. So if you're not afraid of neck strain, but are afraid breaking a $600 pair of planars, I'd recommend these.

Good, But Not Great
This headphone was a very expensive lesson for me in headphone preference, and I wish Drop would have accepted a return, but that aside, here are my thoughts. Build: They're built very well, nearly all metal construction with a faux-leather headband and non-memory foam faux-leather pads being the only shortcoming. The provided cables are excellently built, with both a 3.5mm unbalanced w/ a 6.35mm adapter and a 4.4mm balanced to choose from. The drivers themselves are almost totally exposed and look incredible. Comfort: These are highly comfortable, but the overall weight of them is fatiguing. I can wear them for maybe 2 hours at most before my neck starts to hurt. With glasses, the 100mm pads will exhert pressure on your frames, not painfully so, but enough to slowly push glasses forward over time. The cables attaching directly at the bottom can get snagged on your shoulders at times. Sound: Decent soundstage. Great imaging. Overall bright tuning with a treble focus. Highly detailed. More on the analytical or neutral side. Treble can be a bit much at times. The bass, while detailed and resolute, leaves room for improvement. They're very slightly warm. Power: Relatively easy to drive, but you will need a decent DAC/AMP setup to truly drive them properly. Usage: I'd recommend these for at-home use for mostly music, some movies, but not for gaming. Packaging: They're well packaged, with the only issue being the headphones smashed up against the lid in transit, though that matters little considering they're almost entirely metal. This headphone was my first planar-magnetic, and my first leap into the high end. I took a gamble and lost. I would not recommend buying these until you've had a chance to listen to them first. Extra: Modhouse Xenon pads helped round out the sound signature and widen the soundstage a bit, but it wasn't enough to make me like these.

Scarily open sound stage, crisp audio, and a warmer leaning feel
These are extremely comfortable, lending well to anyone who is always wearing hats, as the self adjusting band will conform to your dome whether you are capping it or not. They're built like a weapon and they're pretty heavy which some may not appreciate but the weight distribution is solid and doesn't leave any pressure points on my particular noggin's dimensions. I constantly looked around to greet someone that walked into my room or check something that fell over due to the obscenely wide sound stage and crisp clear audio making it sound like something was actually happening irl around me. The slightly warm leaning tone also added to that convincing effect, as the sound signature feels accurate enough to startle you but not so robotically precise and piercing to entail it's just a recording. The included cables are robust and imo good looking, the packaging and unboxinge experience was extremely premium. The outer packaging looks good enough to display. The ear pads are perfectly round which means they would be easier to swap or replace than a more oblong pad. The only negative would be that my long hair gets caught somewhere I can't seem to locate when I remove them, but this was easily fixed by tying up my hair.

DERPFACELARYAfter a couple months of ownership I wanted to come back with a few additions: Build quality is insane. Really love how if the earcups get loose, you can just tighten the screw slightly with a regular hex head screwdriver. Bonus points for the fact that they don't really get loose with normal wear. I don't intentionally abuse these but I am quite unlucky and clumsy so one earcup got a little loose and I tightened it back up and it hasn't budged since. Another great thing about this is that you can adjust the tension of the earcup rotation by simply loosening or tightening that same screw. I've dropped it, accidentally clipped my mic arm with it, and knocked it on a few things on accident and not even a damn scratch or ding. Crazy tough outer shell. Ofc they're still just as delicate internally as any other planar magnetic headphones but damn that build quality. No loss of tension on the headband. Still soft and comfy as ever. Same screws for that too btw. Amazing to see that. Imo it feels impossible to get used to the sound profile of these because the sound stage makes everything feel so real. If they weren't so bulky I'd forget I wasn't just using speakers or just hearing things irl. Bass is lacking but that's as expected for open backs. Doesn't feel like you're missing anything though, and that's coming from a real bass addict. I'm the type of fiend that cranks those bottom end frequencies on anything else but these just sound too pretty to warrant that. Overall absolutely worth the price. I was expecting buyers remorse knowing that I already have nice beyerdynamic dt990 pros and it's not going to be worth the up charge but man it was stunning on first impression and that feeling sure as hell lasts. I've gone through 3 keyboards in the span of owning these lmao

Very Comfy, Cable is Good, and Sound is very Hifiman (in a good way)
These headphones ship in a pretty nice box. However the earcups (the whole cups, not the pads lol) came detached from the headphone which I've heard online some people mention. It takes about 4 seconds to reattach them to the headphone and theyve never even come close to detaching since I've owned them for several weeks. It comes with 2 cables: a 3.5mm 90° angled single ended cable and a 4.4mm balanced cable. The sound is very Hifiman planar sounding, which is a great thing. It's neutral and has plenty of detail and treble, with the bass and mids also still very present and clear. The Venus is also very comfortable, way more than Hifiman's in this price range (Sundara, Ananda, Edition XS). I was able to wear them for a couple hours and my ears only got a little warm on the stock leather pads (the pad space for your ears is very spacious unlike those). The headband mechanism is also really well designed, I can't imagine anyone would find that part comfortable. They're a little heavy, but nothing too crazy imo. If you have a really really big problem with heavy headphones, then yeah I guess skip these, but I think more important than weight listed on a scale is how the weight is distributed. These are distributed very well over the whole head, while something like the old Audeze headphones pre 2021 distribute a lot of weight and clamp towards the jaw and front of your head. I think these are more comfortable than those These are an easy recommend. They sound very competitively for this price range, look really really nice in my opinion, are very comfy, and come with solid cables and box (no carrying case). These were a grade sidegrade to the other headphones I own to give my music a different flavor if I ever wanna change the sound as these sound very different :) (for reference, I also own an HD 560s, Focal Clear, Focal Celestee, Meze 109 Pro, Dan Clark Aeon Closed X, HD8XX, and an HD600)
