Hey guys, I take it this doesn't work driverless (and probably not with Mac or Linux)?
Anyway, how bad/good are the drivers on windows? Is there an open source driver option?
Also, I guess I should ask how it sounds compared to the monoprice amp/dac (similar price) and onboard audio. My headphones don't have a high impedance.

AnonyMapI got one in a previous massdrop. never got it to work with the drivers. Also, the unit I got was not FCC approved and not legal to sell in the United States.
AnonyMapthe drivers work on windows, but can be finicky.
honestly, this unit is "meh"
I would just recomend you buy a real amp and then a dac latter or just go straight for the o2 ODAC combo or a schiit stack.
this DACAMP is mediocre to shit range and will leave you wondering why you didn't just spend the extra money to get a proper AMP the first time around

SpacePotatoBearDo you know if this is based off the O2 design, or is 02 just a model number?

SpacePotatoBearbut what are your standards for DACs and AMPs?
because i'm not one of those audiophiles who want top of the line equipment/sound. I'm just a person with mid-range headphones (HD 598) who finds this DAC/AMP combo's features, specs, and I/O "fun" and sufficient enough for my needs.
will it suffice for that, or is it really that terrible? I'm wondering about the driver situation, and that's it.

PlutoniumLollyDrivers suck, The DAC is barely better than intergrated if at all, and the AMP is the same story except at higher volumes it cuts out and sounds like shit.
$50 maybe, $100 no, just get a Schiit Magni 2 or something and role with internal DAC

PlutoniumLollyFrom his earlier posts, it seems he doesn't own any other DACs/AMPs and just wishes for the budget for a Schiit stack, and even in an earlier post say that these Monitor02s are good for the price. He recommends getting a good AMP first then DAC when starting off, which doesn't really make sense since the DAC is the main component for audio quality and the AMP's main job is just something to help power the audiojack for high impedance headphones without coloring the sound. From what I can tell of the components used in this product, the DAC is one that's used in the Fiio E10k, whose predecessor (E10) is pretty well regarded and the E10k is an upgrade of that. As for the AMP, though I can't really find a modern year review of it, has been around for a decade and been pretty popular back some years.
