Featuring a anodized CNC aluminum case in your choice of black, gray, or silver, the NPKC 84 provides a compact yet fully functional layout that makes it easy to transfer from that full-size keyboard. As cool to look at as it is satisfying to type on, the NPKC 84 is assembled with Gateron switches and equipped with your choice of purple or white backlighting Read More
NPKC is shady as hell, after their numpad drop I wouldn't touch them with a long stick. MD still hasn't responded about my faulty PCB and that wasn't exactly cheap
At this price, and those looks, and those caps, just don't bother with it
ohrehmanyeah, I'm gonna agree here, the KC64 drop was done by NPKC and the entire shipment was late and defective.
I'd hold off on any drops manufactured by them until massdrop sorts out their issues with them
mike-andersonWow, I forgot about this. Did you get a more recent drop? If so, I'm amused that they didn't change a thing.
I've still got this thing in a drawer somewhere because MD didn't end up following up on the replacement.
geeker342Couple things:
- I dont think most people are going to like the case design with the screws on the top and the thickness of the case.
- The keycaps are not great quality
- There is no option for Cherry switches, only Gateron
- Lack of details for the programmability of the keyboard as well as a lack of transparency/details into how the LED control works.
All of these things with a $140 price tag are likely what are keeping people away from this drop. Not to mention that NPKC has not had a great run in the last couple drops with the KC60 being heavily delayed, their switch tester numpad being delayed and not exactly the quality that they had described it as, and a keycap drop running longer than it should have. I think most people are staying away due to the price compared to the possible issues with the keyboard and the drop.
What possessed them to close the case on top like that? Ugly.
I do love that layout though. I'd be tempted if it had the programmability of my KC60. I have started to let my HHKB languish because I love it so much. The gateron blues are great, if a bit loud compared to the Topre.
beesingsLOL I actually bought a HHKB and a leopold fc660c side-by-side.(shipping wound up being so that the hhkb took 3 weeks or so and the leopold was here in 5days.
those arrow keys are really lovely...
I have rarely used my hhkb aside from a few setups/installs(small portable)
I suggest you check out the leopold if you like topres... I wanted a hhkb for years and all ... finally showed up... never used it
Other alternative keyboard would be Keycool Hero 84, if you want these layouts with Cherry MX switches.
I think Keycool Hero 84 has slightly better layout than NPKC 84, because F# row is stacked on Number row. Useful for gaming purposes (WoW raiding) :P
Heres my Keycool Hero 84!
I love this layout but...
1. No cherry clones, please. Obviously for such price tag. I want cherry mx clear switches
2. No cheap keycaps, please. I want PBT keycaps
3. If you sell keyboards in different colours, so please show pictures of all variants. Specially for a such rare keyboard.
4. You must show also the back side of the keyboard.
There are many people who say that Gateron switches are OK. But I really doubt that this plastic they use for switch cases can stand for industrial standards. It looks like a very cheap plastic material which will bend under high temperatures, or will crack under heavy keyboard use. Did anybody check how durable are those switches? Cherry switches are tested by time, these ones are not.
