A few years ago I saw black Seki Edge clippers on sale at the Hido Tool shop in Oakland CA. I wish I had bought them then. The black versions seem to be pretty rare but look really cool. I would definitely buy them if they were available here.
nikonf5 Don't do a review when you don't have the facts straight, all Seki Edge products are made in Japan with the exception of 4 products In-Grown Toenail Nipper , Hair Cutting Shear, Bamboo Ear Picks, and Eye Lash Curler.
Everything else is 100% made in Japan, just so you know the Nail Clippers have receive the top awards for being the best Clippers in the market, go to WireCutter a review company that reviews products on their own and do not allow any influence from manufactures and see the reviews on the Nail Clippers, It's a shame that you're knocking products before you even have your facts straight. in fact the only reason why the In-Grown Toenail Nipper says Made in China is because the Metal on this tool has to be drop forged once that's completed they ship the metal to Japan to finish the tool, and by the way that particular tool is mainly for Podiatrists. Oh and this Toenail Nipper is not included in any of the Kits sold by Drop. Green Bell the maker of Seki Edge is one of those unique throwback companies rich in history for craftsmanship as every product is either handmade or hand finished just like in the old Samurai swords making days in the 1800 century.
As a madder a fact if you have 2 products alike and if you compare them you will notice some minor cosmetic differences but the good news is that they perform to perfection every single time.
I only came to Massdrop to do a weekly update and saw this, see attached image for what "crafted" in Japan actually means for all Seki Edge products.
Someone caught them and they had to re-label it is my guess.
The right sticker was on top of the text on the left and was carefully peeled off by me and stuck to the right before I took the above image from the packaging of some Seki Edge toe-nail nippers I bought from another Seki Edge vendor 'F' thinking I was going to get the quality of a true Japanese-made nipper like a Suwada at a third of the price.
If, like me, you are thinking you can get Japanese steel or even craftsmanship at this price, you will be disappointed.
Why can nobody produce a man's size file??!! All I have been able to find are these doll size versions that are feeble and inefficient... pitiful. Has anyone found a man's solution? I have had no luck except for the glass version that I found to be unacceptable.
I'm glad these are back. I've had a similar kit in my Amazon cart at $109 since December. I have the 2 clipper set for a while but I wanted the full kit. I also have the Adonis 2 clipper set but my kids use those now. This is one of the few real bargains on Drop.
I remember a time when men were more resourceful!
Nothing in this kit you couldn't accomplish just as well with tools you likely have laying around the house already.

Chenson722"Absolutely nothing" is the wrong answer. I have no idea how direct the line is, but Seki, Japan is credited with being the city (or region) where the greatest sword makers the world had ever known up to that point, during the days of the active culture of the Samurai. Seki is still known as Japan's best, and best-known, steel making towns. I'm not saying the clippers are made from the best steel Seki has to offer, and like I already said, I don't know how direct the lineage of yester-century's to today's forging and/or heat-treating is, just that Seki forges use the history of the area as a selling-point for everything made of steel that is forged and/or fully-manufactured there. It's sort of like Solingen, Germany requires all of their blade manufacturers to stamp "Solingen" on every blade that comes out of there, even though the phrase, "Solingen Steel" or "Made In Solingen" could just as easily mean something super-cheap (like 440 Stainless Steel) to something like the modern stainless steels that are pricey and much sought after among bladesmiths and consumers alike these days (S30V and above).
For my money, Seki is more meaningful to the quality of the steel than is Solingen. Like most things having to do with how/where steel is formulated, YMMV.
