Pleasantly surprised as mine has already arrived! Hadn't even purchased the speakers yet as I thought I had another few weeks to shop around. Hopefully others have received theirs as well or will have by the weekend. By the way, anyone have any suggestions on speakers for these?

Appreciate the suggestions thus far! Don't have any just yet. Looking probably around $1500-2000 with some flexibility there. This room will see some traffic from the kids so don't want to put anything too fancy in there right now. Room is a den about 15' L x14' W with 8' H ceilings vaulted to 11' (could make things interesting). Will likely start off with 5.2 and see how the phantom function works out, and then see if I can figure out how to work with the vaulted ceiling for height after. I'll definitely look into the Definitive Pro Monitor 1000’s as well as the Polks as I've had previously good experiences with them. The Elac's look pretty nice as well from a quick google. Will likely end up going with in-wall for the rears to appease the SO so we'll see what that leaves me with. As far as usage, we'll be using these for a bit of everything really. Thanks again!

I'm not ordering this...but only because I already have it. I can attest to the fact that this is an excellent receiver, and, at this price, it's that much better. The Dolby Atmos sounds is fantastic, and the Phantom Rear Speakers is simply amazing. Phantom Rear, for those who don't already know, uses the side surround speakers to trick your ears into believing you have a 9.1-channel configuration, when, in reality, you're only running a 7.1-channel system (the Dolby Atmos speakers, whether ceiling-mounted, or bounced off the ceiling, are connected to the 'Rear Surround' outputs on the receiver). Put another way, coming from the Side Surround speakers, you hear the side surround from the side, AND the rear surround from the rear, even though there are NO actual Rear Surround speakers. Power output is loud AND clean. Best of all, I have partial control (additional controls coming soon) of the receiver from Google Assistant, Through my phone, as well as Google Home. If you're in need of a new relatively inexpensive home theater receiver, or you're looking to give one as a gift (preferably birthday, as it's too late to order this for Christmas), I would highly recommend this receiver. Paired work higher-quality speakers, such as mine from Definitive Technology, you will have an amazing-sounding home theater.

Honestly, I don't remember if it comes with one, as I never use it for the radio (I have Sonos to provide extremal music sources). However, it shouldn't be too difficult to "manufacture" your own adapter using a short coax cable, male-male adapter, some wire cutters, a wire stripper, a soldiering iron, and either electrical tape or heat-shrink tubing. If you don't have, or can't afford, a soldiering iron (they're fairly cheap at Home Depot, Lowe's, & Ace Hardware), you can always use a couple of twist-on wire connectors.

I should have clarified more but failed to do so. I do plan on using it in a home theater setup but currently space limitations prohibit the separation of my home theater, my gaming devices (Xbox, PC, etc.) and my studio (PC based). I tend to run into the scenario where I will use them interchangeably at times. I would rather have fewer speakers set up at one time all while keeping audio quality high. I have used self powered theater solutions in the past but I find them lacking for numerous small reasons and I want to move beyond that with a more custom setup. The Sony STRHD790 ($230) would be adequate for what I am looking to do in the time being and I could use it in a secondary setup eventually as I expect it to last for years to come. That said if could achieve improved sound clarity/quality with the STRDN1080 ($300) regardless of the speakers it would be a valuable upgrade for the price. The additional I/O on the back will be a useful but not quite necessary for the first 6-8 months. The main point of consideration I have is if the end result audio quality is potentially better because of simply improved internals or more advanced technologies processing the signal. I am aware that there is an increase of RMS per channel from 145W to 165W but I doubt I will be driving the speakers that hard in the first place. The simplified question is that while I have a basic understanding of technologies such as Dolby Atmos but wonder what is really just marketing fluff and I am also aware of the additional features such as increased I/O but I don't know if the internal hardware and/or firmware can ultimately produce a better output sound. Also for what it is worth I can afford either AVR unit but I do like to save some money in the long run by purchasing equipment that has a good upgrade path but if not I would rather avoid the wasteful route. P.S. I already have the Polk T15s and I plan on purchasing better units so the speakers should not hold the system back. Thank you for the input. It seems AVRs are still new to Massdrop so I appreciate having the perspective from an actual owner and one who seems familiar with a setup at that.

Guess this place is a joke? Just got a refund and a credit for future use(don't think I'll be back). It took them a month to realize the item was oversold! My first time here and not really happy with how they do business. Guess I should have just bought the receiver at best buy. Was only another $60 and I wouldn't have waited for the disappointing results a month later with this site. Congratulations to the few that seem to have received theirs. Would have been nice to get mine too.

Thanks for the advice/heads up on the other amp. think i will just stick with my current set up... I have a new pioneer receiver (vsx-lx102), not happy with how it plays with my new Sony 4k TV. that is why i wanted to buy the Sony deal on Massdrop. Its a long story, but best buy advised me to buy the pioneer over the Sony DN1080 last year. I have always wanted and researched the Sony. Yet, Best Buy talked me into a supposed "better" device. While Pioneer might be "better". It hates to switch back from Android TV(smart tv). Maybe Sony will have the same problem. Will see if Sony drops back to the low of $399 or better, it is $450 right now.
That didn't work. Newegg RMA canceled on me, and it's magically sold out so I can't do a thing. Something really weird is going on with China and receivers. I think they're running side deals.

I doubted MassDrop. They failed me on my December attempt to buy this receiver. But, they gave me a refund, coupon and quickly reposted the drop and I immediately jumped on the drop again (although with copious amounts of skepticism). Yet, my January Drop arrived today (minor box damage). And so far all looks and sounds great. Will give it a few weeks of testing, but I think it's good enough to replace my Pioneer LX102. So, to MassDrop, thank you. To others who posted below, Thank You! Would I buy here again, maybe... It would have to be a drastic savings over the best price I had ever seen on an item to be willing to risk the chance of cancellation after 2-4 weeks of waiting for shipping. I don't understand the length of time between getting the drop and actual delivery/cancellation? While some deals seem great, price trends and faster shipping often close the gap of the deal often found for everyday products. Now the unique items they sell may be another story completely. I have never looked for copper flashlights, but I would start my search for those nifty items here. All in all, I saved about $82 over the other places that sell electronics, recent low of $399($599 highest). Plus with credit cards and other rewards that save me a bit more. It was a better price to buy from MassDrop. But it also took almost 2 months to complete the entire process to save that amount of money. So, if you are VERY patient and and don't need 2 day shipping. It might be worth the savings. Good luck.

JinOHI'd say you understand this website pretty well, and I want to offer a few thoughts in reply to your question, "I don't understand the length of time between getting the drop and actual delivery/cancellation?"

In general, when there's a big discount here it's due to the manufacturer's savings from making multiple sales at once - on shipping, logistics, middle-men, etc. - by moving merchandise in bulk, transported by methods other than the fastest available, and apparently, by processing on a low priority too. I've only joined a few drops that cancelled, and dozens that went through. I agree it's annoying when it happens, but in my experience their success rate is very high. The "Overview" page usually states time-frames and contingencies pretty clearly, but I don't have any specific info on the drop that got cancelled on you as I didn't try to join that one. Sorry if my non-participation made the difference in that one! You're right, the really big savings are few and far between, but like you said, there are also a lot of unique items one doesn't stumble upon accidentally, elsewhere. A lot of drops are only helpful to people in unique circumstances, especially people who can't normally get certain items shipped to their place of residence. If you keep in mind that a lot of what you see aren't great discounts and a significant number probably aren't discounts at all (for you, depending on where you live and shipping options there), I think you'll find massdrop.com more helpful than disappointing, overall.

If you want to play DSD files via network, I found a DLNA server that works with this receiver! Serviio. It is available for Windows, Mac and other OS for free. https://www.serviio.org When I first received this AVR, I was a bit dismayed to learn it did not work with my existing DLNA servers. I could only play DSD files via flash drive. Now that I have found the Serviio server all is good. This receiver sounds much better than others anywhere near its retail price range, but at the Massdrop price, it is an unbelievably good deal!
