Based in Driggs, Idaho, and surrounded by some of the world’s best trout rivers and streams, Tenkara Rod Co. makes products for tenkara anglers of all levels. A Japanese style of fly fishing that’s been around for hundreds of years, Tenkara (literally “from heaven”) gets a contemporary interpretation in the Owyhee, the company’s longest rod yet.
Note: This drop comes with everything you need to start fly fishing right out of the box, including a rod, swivel tips, line, spool, tippet, and three hand-tied flies. Quantities are limited to 80 units.
At 13 feet long and 5.4 ounces, the beefed-up Owyhee allows you to throw those 15- or 20-foot lines and catch larger fish up to 18 inches, all while providing nice, flexible action and precise control. Plus, it won’t tangle easily and requires no reel, making it a great rod for newcomers to tenkara to learn on. When the day is done, its nine sections collapse to 21.5 inches for convenient travel.
All lines from Tenkara Rod Co. are handcrafted using a single-strand, non-tapered construction and a 3-millimeter alloy tippet ring. The line spool is designed specifically for tenkara rods, and is just big enough to make winding your line simple and quick. Plus, it floats! The notches make it easy to attach flies, while the foam core helps dry your line if necessary.
