Made in Usa, Japan, right? The SPECS don't say and you can't trust your lying eyes when it comes to photography.
I was hoping you were being facetious, but Poe's law has surprised me in the past. 😁

NotsurewhyibotherThanks for noticing. There is a history in my Usa, Japan remark/myth though. Part of The History of Misleading Marketing . . .

This is a good knife, and not bad for the price. If you find yourself drawn to this style , I would suggest you check out their folder, Mini Scandi Folder 4.0 . The folding model is done in n690 (a respectable stainless steel), utilizes an actual Scandi grind , and actually gives you an extra 1/4" of blade. This does of course come with a price hike around $40 (and is manufactured in Italy). I'll throw in a link (because Blade Hq is throwing in oil ) but formerly Mass Drop has had it drop before and I imagine it may drop again. https://www.bladehq.com/item--TOPS-Knives-MSF-Liner-Lock-Flipper--81898

Guess I'll finally give in and pick this one up with my $25 "sorry we suck" credit....since the ESEE drop I was planning to join randomly closed early 🙄 Been on the fence on this knife forever it seems, but for ~$40 shipped, yep 👍

Contrary to what one would expect from the name it's a sabre grind, not scandi.

MManalangAs long as it has a secondary bevel it's not scandi but sabre 🙂

It should be noted that the handles/scales have different material components (some linen, some canvas), with one option being G10:
  • Black/Black - Black linen micarta (red liners)
  • Black/Tan - Tan canvas micarta (tan liners, as far as I can tell)
  • Tan/Black survival - Black linen micarta (red liners)
  • Steel/Tan Rockies - Green canvas micarta (white liners)
  • Black/Green and Black - Green and black G10 (red liners)
Noticed the difference being called out when looking at a TOPS video for the knife. Not sure if anyone cares, given it's predominantly micarta, but the Drop page doesn't call this out and the specs just say "micarta" across the board.

wibblesI care and thank you for making this comment. Even if it was a long time ago. I love my Tops Mini Scandi Folder, but expected the tan canvas micarta it came with to be a bit softer than it was. Unlike most other knives I own with canvas micarta, the matte canvas seemed to be more rigid. And while it looks great, it does not give me that extra grip when my hands are wet, sweaty or covered with a bit of oil. It has more the feel of smooth g-10 rather than a hard pressed fabric.

For all you commenting on the price, it’s obviously you didn’t attempt to purchase it. Go ahead and just attempt to buy it then complain about the price.

Yeah, it's definitely not that now ($63 and change) From the comments, and my foggy memory, I don't think it was near that cheap in previous drops either, or I'd own it by now lol Wonder if maybe you had a credit on your account? That or I think you got super lucky with some crazy site glitch

KavikI just looked and it was charging $63.50 now. So maybe it was a first time purchase deal. Sometimes they give an intro deal price like on the Gent it was $79 then after the first drop it went up to $99. Don’t know?? It was a great deal.

Hmm: $62.49 from MD, you get the knife in a month vs $63.89 from Amazon, you get the knife in five days A small scandi in 1095 would be super fun for whittling and this looks like it would also make a neat, robust bird and trout knife. Big kudos to Massdrop for featuring some great knives from great makers. But a bummer that you can get the same knife without the wait for $1.40 more elsewhere.

I just got this knife last week on Amazon for $1 more. It's now about $6 more on Amazon right now. It's an amazing knife. I got the survival knife. The options here are kinda messed up, it's really confused in the check out, and I think they mixed up the different versions. The survival has a tan blade and black handle, but it shows differently when you pick it as one of the options. For $6 more, I would rather have it in three days. Great knife. Great option for backpacking, it weighs only 2.9 ounces with the kydex sheath on.
