I bought this keyboard during the last drop to hold me over until my ergodox ships. This keyboard is great - it is my main work keyboard. It is comfortable to type on and small enough to travel in my laptop bag. As a Linux hacker, I found the placement of the /? key to be the weirdest change, but I was over it within the first week.
Note that I definitely experienced the double key issue. This is not my first mechanical keyboard and I know how to type on these switches. This is a known issue with a fix acknowledged at https://www.trulyergonomic.com/store/firmware-upgrade--truly-ergonomic-mechanical-keyboard#Double_Letters . The fix is to use the v3.16 firmware available at that site. Unfortunately when I tried using a firmware produced by the layout editor the problem came back. The layout editor produces a v3.31 firmware; at the bottom of the site it says the following: "New Firmware (v3_31) created by this Layout Designer solves the Fn+Vol bug. If you experience double letters, please install original default Firmware (v3_16)." I'm stuck with the default layout, but I don't get double keypresses.
Even given that issue, I would recommend this keyboard to anyone who wants an ergonomic mechanical keyboard. Installing the v3.16 firmware is easy.
adamatomI did see that on their website, however I want to be able to modify the layout to my specification. If I'm stuck using a QWERTY layout because of some firmware bugs, that's just irritating and makes the keyboard's price (even with this Massdrop) very expensive.
Admittedly, I agree with you that this keyboard is probably more comfortable to use then a standard style one and definitely makes better use of actual key-layout. But this isn't enough to convince me to buy it.
If Massdrop accepts returns (like on TEK's own site), then I might be willing to try it and join the drop.
adamatom@adamatom, you should check out this thread: https://github.com/yurivkhan/teck/issues/7. Yuri is the original creator of the custom layout designer that TECK has on their website. He's looking for people to try out different firmwares that may help with the key bounce problem.
Luckily, I haven't seen the key bounce problem on either of my TECKs, at least not in an easily repeatable manner.
Good luck.
