I'm shocked there is no response from CC or Massdrop regarding the odor issue. I'll pass.

So I have the larger one and figured I would provide some pictures for scale and what can fit inside.

So the large container is almost exactly the same diameter as a 12oz beer bottle and about the same height as a 12oz beer can.
I put a few things for a "fire kit" inside mostly because many of you will have these items and know how large they are. As for a true Fire Kit, I would probably replace a few things so I could take more tinder or what not, maybe a small knife. Anyhoo, this is what I currently have inside.

So Delrin is a type of plastic? For a strong steel alloy I would pay this price but not for plastic. not sure I understand why this is so special.

Funny thing is it is not massdrops friend or else they would have seen the lower prices elsewhere.

It is special because it is permanently impregnated with a uniqur theft deterrent - the overwhelming stench of rotting fish. All joking aside, read the comments. If you order them you are rolling the dice and may end up with one that is irrevocably tainted by a horrible odor that won't go away, no matter what.

Oh, man.  :(      Just received my drop on this item.  Opened the larger of the 2.....no problem.  Well built.  Then I opened the smaller one.......the fish smell was overwhelming.  I don't mean to exaggerate, but the ENTIRE ROOM was filled with the smell of a boat's bait well.  I fish, but this is not a good odor.  This is BAD.  Not a happy camper here.  I will leave it uncapped for a few days, as someone else suggested, and will post a follow up.  I feel ill.....

I’m not sure what to tell you. I don’t have the same problems you do with any of CountyComm‘s Delrin bottles. I have five CR123 ”battery lockers” and two Delrin safe sized containers and use some for my Rx medication and other pills in my pack. The only difference is that I purchased mine direct from CountyComm Instead of MassDrop. Delrin/acetal does not have any chemical properties that would create any offensive odors. My best guess is some type of oil based surface treatment applied somewhere in the shipping or last stage of manufacturing the manufacturing process. One thing you might check that readily absorbs odor is the O-rings on the bottles. Try removing or replacing them and see if that might be the culprit.

Yes - I absolutely think it's the machining oil that's used, not the delrin itself. It has a very "organic, gone rancid" smell to it. But that's why I also can't figure out why the various methods I've used to clean it haven't worked. Definitely not the O-ring, since it wasn't even involved at one point, and the smell comes much more strongly from the large main interior cavity of the bottle.
Even at this point, I haven't closed the bottle again. I'm almost afraid to because of how annoyed I'll be if the smell still comes back a few days later haha. Perhaps leaving it in the sun? I'll get to it some day. I really do like all of CC's stuff, and they are definitely very well machined (the aluminum ones are no joke).

Well, Massdrop has given me a tracking number with FedEx that doesn't register with them.  What's up?

To quote one of my favorite presidents: "There you go again". This is the second time in six months that Massdrop's "Drop" is more expensive than you can purchase direct from the manufacturer. Countycomm sells the large container for $18.50, and the small one for $15.95. The total is $5.00 cheaper than buying from Massdrop. Is someone asleep at the wheel, or is Massdrop just playing the odds that no one will check out prices online.

Is the new set still plagued by the overwhelmingly strong stink of rotting fish? The three sets I purchased are still unusable due to the ever present foul odor that renders anything stored in the container to a nasty demise. Rancid stinky smelly capsules of doom.

Be honest, the smell really went away? If so, you were lucky. Mine still stink, just like the containers of so many others on this thread, and I have tried your approach, as well as almost every other cleaner. I am disappointed that massdrop does not disclose this known problem.

I'm not sure what the point of these is, but for some reason I have a strong urge to acquire one.

I have to say, I got some of these from the last drop and I use them all the time - these are essentially bomb proof containers.
