Like something out of a 19th-century mad scientist’s workshop, the Transformer toothpick crossbow is out of this world in appearance. Regarding performance, it’ll knock your socks off—or your coworker’s Read More
Please, Massdrop, don't waste your time with these.
I bought a normal toothpick crossbow on a different drop, but from the same manufacturer. The reviews have been consistently bad on all the toothpick crossbow drops on this site. Mine came covered in some strange yellow-green oily substance which, when I cleaned the device, left a gooey residue that absolutely refused to come off. The build quality of these is moderately low to poor. The trigger is frustratingly wobbly. The frame isn't even straight, so it won't fire where you aim.
Do us all a favor and spend your money on something more worthwhile. Or, on second thought, maybe even just something that was manufactured properly.
MetropolixI'm a mechanical engineer and I find this product intriguing. It's perfectly ok if the frame is wobbly, bent or if it has minor flaws. Those are only to be corrected, and it's a perfect base for me to modify. But for someone less intrigued by fiddling around with the mechanics, I could understand the possible disappointment. :)
So the handle isn't wood, I got no spare parts for the transformer bow just the free el cheapo bow it came with but a couple of weeks after I got the two bows in the mail I received another el cheapo bow out of the blue so I can't really complain.
forScienceI just received the Silver Bowman Toothpick Crossbow that was suppose to be included in the drop yesterday (3/1/19). It did come with extra parts and a stand. The extra parts are a draw string/cable and shrink tubing to cover the crimps at the ends of the draw string/cable, a limb and a small screwdriver. It has just a fraction of the power of the Transformer crossbow and there's a lot of slop in the trigger. The trigger needs some small washers on each side or be thicker. I wouldn't recommend buying these crossbows unless you come across a very good deal or you really really want one.
Hey Massdrop, where's the Silver Bowman Toothpick Crossbow that's suppose to come with it? I didn't receive one as stated in the description. And there was no extra parts or wood handles as stated in the description. Also one of the acorn nuts had come off so I took the bow apart and adjusted the play in the bow arms and used Loctite to keep the nuts from coming loose.
Otherwise it shoots very good and hard but not very accurate with toothpicks.
Is it really wood or plastic painted look a like wood ? And is it all actually made of steel ? Or there are some plastic parts covered in chrome paint ?
Just received my crossbow. It was a very crossed bow. The trigger was bent almost 90 degrees, the bow was skewed on the middle axis, and the arms were twisted as well.
The box had no padding, just a box with a damaged crossbow, nothing else.
Waste of money, stay away.
Just a warning: almost every drop from this company has been shit. Missing parts and inaccurate descriptions are a common theme. Customer service is completely unresponsive. Buy at your own risk.
The description has two inaccuracies in it: the grips are cheap plastic, not wood; and it does not come with any extra parts.
Mine was actually missing a single screw for the grip.
Besides these three disappointments, the crossbow is pretty solid and fires cotton swabs or toothpicks pretty far.
I got mine just now. It looks quite just enough for my expectation. Building quality is not perfect but not that bad either. Transluscent acryl parts are OK, but I am a bit afraid it can be not so durable if you drop it on a hard surface. The grip would be perfect if it is made of real wood... but fine DIY tunig will be fun for this steampunk bow :-) Trajectory speed is fater than I expected. Longer arrow like a long q-tip flies better FYI
