Safety Concern with No Power Button on Drop BMR1 Nearfields

more_vert
I recently received the new speakers from Drop and must say that they have an amazing sound, but there is a massive safety concern that I can see with this product. I do not like having my devices powered on at all times in an effort to save on electricity and reduce fire hazards. Since this new product does not have a power button I must unplug it once I shut everything down to make sure it does not draw power. In order to turn the speakers back on, I must re-plug them with a glaring issue: ******** There are sparks whenever I re-plug the power to the speakers ******** These sit on my desk now which means there is a possibility of paper (from homework, mail, etc.) near these speakers. Needless to say I do not want sparks being created near an area where flammable items such as paper may be. It boggles my mind why drop engineers decided to omit the functionality of a power button when there is a button on the device. The most the button does is rest the device, which could be done by switching a power on/off button manually? Either way, this is a very large safety concern with this new product. Love the sound, but some functionalities really need to be reconsidered.

BMR1 speakers are very light and easy to install.  The tone of the speaker is very rich and the high notes are clearly heard.  Bluetooth and AUX switching are very convenient and fast, but I don't know how to turn off the power or switch to standby mode. The output is also quite good and does not take up much space on the desk. What is somewhat unfortunate is that the cable length between speakers is very short. It is about 1m long, but there may be interference when using a large desk or two monitors.  The pedestal is plastic, so it is somewhat light, so there is vibration on the desk.  It's better if you get a dustproof treatment because there's some booming when the low sound occurs excessively.

Just now, my speakers just shut off randomly. After re plugging them in, I had a red dot and no sound or anything.
