Are audiophile headphones good for gaming?

more_vert
Hi everybody, I want to choose a headset for my gaming purpose, if I want to play the game with the most authentic feeling, one of the main factors is a headset. I'm not sure which model to choose for me. If you have any experience, can I have some suggestions? Thank you very much for your interest in my matter.

The HD700 used is a good option, great spatial location, w/o the cost of the 800. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=HD700&_

The HifiMan HE400i are what I used to use on my PC, Planar Magnetic, so they do low end well. Very comfortable over long gaming sessions. 200 Euro. With Covid and being stuck at home I figured I may as well use my Focal ELEX, 600 Euro, instead of the 400i as they are a better headphone, though they are less comfortable after 4-5 hours or so. You can buy both from Drop. I run them off an Audioquest Dragonfly Black USB DAC 100 Euro retail.

I think Audiophile headphones are excellent for gaming. They usually offer more detail, and sound more realistic so you can be more immersed in the game. I wrote a whole guide post and shot a video about this, and how to pick the “best for you” gaming headphone: "Thoughts: The BEST Gaming Headphone for All Time?" post on Drop! https://drop.com/talk/55201/thoughts-the-best-gaming-headphone-for-all-time?utm_source=appshare&referer=Z2JXCA You may have your own opinion, but like @amoeba1126 I use my HD 800 for ultimate in realism and detail (plus I use surround processing), I use a PC38X when I’m on my iPad or away from my studio. I have a Mobius and I find it entertaining, but I don’t use it all that much (it’s best when used for PC gaming). There are MANY other headphones and headsets out there, which is why I made the video above talking in general about what to look for in reviews, depending on your goals.

Headset or headphones? Also wireless or wired? Just for games or for other stuff like movies and music?

HectorHortonOr don’t answer lol. The stereo headphones that will give you the biggest soundstage (good for competitive FPS that has good positional audio) would be the HD800. K701 and it’s variants are a fantastic alternative, as is the Philips X2. The best sounding wireless headset would be the Penrose if you are going for stereo immersion. Mobius is one of the best sounding wired headsets if you are looking for one with “gaming gimmicks”.
